A test pipe bolts in place of your catalatic converter, so basically its like taking out your cat and putting a straight pipe in the place of it. your car is 96 or newer so you have a secondary o2 sensor which detects the catalatic converter efficiency so putting a test pipe on will most likely trip a check engine light. I would not reccommend one if you live in a place like california, or any other place with emissions tests as you will fail them with a test pipe. It is also NOT street legal.

so what your saying is since it is a bolt on app. , i can swap it out and put the catylic converter back on when i need to right?
 
Yes technically you should be able to but sometimes having the aftermarket header will only allow you to use the supplied test pipe, or aftermarket cat so there is a chance you would have to put the stock exhaust manifold and cat back on in order to pass. If you were interested they do also make a small chip you can wire into your secondary o2 sensor which will make the ecu think that your cat is working correctly so you dont throw a check engine code. Thats what i did on my n/a car. But thankfully here in kansas they dont care about emissions at all so i never have to change anything back.

but get back to me on how this goes and if your interested i can try to find the site that sells the o2 simulator chip and it only costs about $20.00
 
ah cool. yeah i just ordered my catback and about to order a header off ebay. now i know ebay isnt the most reputable but some people have good luck with them so we;ll see. thanks again rob. and if you can find that site i would greatley appreciate it :)
 
Yea my header, and test pipe were both from ebay brand new for less than 40.00 shipped and i have had them on my n/a car for over a year and they work perfect, no leaks or anything. My catback was done custom from a muffler shop though. But i will look for that o2 site.
