I just finished hooking up my guages and driving my car for the first time in a while. However, My EGT gauge is reading some weird temps. It is tapped on the #1 runner about 4" away from the head. When i start my car the car climbs to 1,000 once it gets there it slowly moves up to 1300-1400 during idle. When i drive the car, not pushing it hard, i easily reach 2000 and past that. If I was really pulling temps like that i think the pistons would have been melted by now, and the car wouldnt run properly.
I pulled the 12v source from the radio along with 2 other gauges that have no problems running, Oil press. and water temp, and they are all 3 grounded to a good location.
Also when i press the brake pedal the gauge 0's out, when i let out it returns to where it was.
Could there be a problem with the 12v source i am getting from to power the gauge?? Bad ground?? or is the gauge F'd up?? Is there something that can make the gauge read more than it should (electrical interferences). Is there an alternate good wire to use for power to the gauge. They are located above my radio. Thanks

I pulled the 12v source from the radio along with 2 other gauges i have next to the EGT. The other 2 dont have any problems at all and read fine. Is the EGT gauge that sensitive to electrical interferance?

make sure the probe isnt touching the bottom of the manifold. the wireing dont worry, i had my egt gauge tapped of the steerio and ran the wires through the center vent for 3 years, no problems. i've seen temps up to 1600f cruzen on the highway at 3 grand. but after i got a logger i found i was richer than bill gates! make sure your probe wire isnt hitting any metal to metal contact under the hood, that can throw your readings big time. make sure your wiring is grounded good that make a big difference on how the gauge acts.

I was having the same problem with the high temps, the bottom of the probe was against the manifold. As for it 0-ing out, I have no idea.

make sure your ground is cherry, and your connections are sold, (important the probe is not touching the manifold.) if everything checks out , get a logger, you tune is probably fubar. i was reading 1550-1600f cruzing at 3grand on the highway. i got a logger, i was richer than donald trumpOMG .
