Would it be possible to use pistons from a NA 4G63 in a turbo 6 bolt engine? Would they fit without modifications? What about valve clearance? And what would be the resulting CR ratio?

And before anyone says it, I know even if they fit and the CR isn't too high, it is not a good option, but I'm kinda in some deep trouble and if the NA pistons can be used, it would help greatly.

Thanks in advance.

So there's no cleareance problems with the head/valves right? And the CR would remain rougly the same as the NA engine? So I could use 91 octane without driving the car too hard, just to move it from my house to someplace near with stock boost.

The pistons are weaker I believe, but they should fit. I would use the highest octane you can get since it will knock earlier since the CR is higher.

its not a matter of clearances, and tuning is not that big a deal. Its the fact that the OEM N/t 4g63 pistons are not of the same quaility as the turbo models. you would be better to get a 8.5:1 from the 2g turbo motor. Coupled with the ability to take more boost, youll probably make considerable more power with better out of boost response from the car.

Well, where I live you have to import the turbo pistons...they only sold the NA model in here. Also I don't plan on racing or driving hard the engine...I just wanted to know if NA pistons could fit and being able to drive a short distance, it's something temporal. So I don't think knocking would be a problem, but wanted to make sure with you guys.

I plan on using 91 octanes, as it's the highest pump fuel I can get...maybe use double headgaskets to lower the CR a little more so I could be on the safe side?

i see your location. Are you sure is 91 octane and not 91 RON rating which is definitely NOT 91 octane.

it will work, but i wouldnt go crazy with it.

I know, our highest pump gas is 95 octane, which is equivalent to 91 octane you guys got in the US. I've done my research. :)

And I just want the car to be able to roll a little distance, without even revving it too much.

LOL No, definitely no double HG!! If you go through this, unhook the actuator arm from the flapper so you build little to no boost.

I wouldn't do it. Try to find a Topline distributor and get their turbo pistons. The top ring lands are very thin on NA pistons. Any detonation could break a ring land loose.

I hear what you are saying. The NT pistons WILL fit with NO clearance issues.

If you just need to put these in to move the car a short distance you will be fine. Hell, my first dsm was a nt that i put a turbo on. I ran 8psi with the NT pistons with no problems for a year, and i beat the hell out of it. It is all in the tune. Detonation will kill the NT pistons VERY quickly, so just br aware of that

I apologize for briefly going off topic but is it true that the price of gasoline is about 40 cents per gallon there in Venezuela?

Thanks for all the responses, everything is taken into consideration as a possible solution. A friend of mine said to me yesterday that it's possible that he may find some turbo pistons for me, and that would be great. If not, I'll use the NA pistons.

LOL more like 2 cents per gallon...it's 97bs for 1 liter of 95 octane (91 in US) and 1$ = 2150 bs.

Do the math, I may be wrong, but it's cheaper than water...I fill up the tank in my DSM using less than 2$ ROFL
