I have a 95 tsi, auto transmission was replced less than month ago. Today almost at the end of my 15mile commute to work the car decides to stop accelerating when overdrive is on, its like feels like its on neutral when i press the gas , but if i turn o/d off it drives normal, however I cant go over 50mph. When I start it I can drive with o/d on but after about 2 mins it stops working. Then if I put it in park and put it on drive again it starts to work but only for a few seconds maybe minutes. Anybody can guess whats wrong with it? Thanx a lot.

It may be an end clutch problem, as many of the overdrive problems are. You can replace the end clutches with ones from IPT which are much more durable over the factory ones:

They cost about 84 dollars...

Here is a how to on how to replace them if you want to do it yourself

O/D is cooked. Its a constant problem with the auto's. Mitsu sucks at auto trans.

I dont think it's that the transmissions suck... Things just wear out over time and need to be replaced, like with everything... Well, mostly everything.

My car doesnt have an end clutch, its an automatic. I went to my mechanic and we took it for a test drive somehow he made o/d work again just by reving it to the red line a couple times. Weird. I guess its an electrical prob because other components such as the door sensor light is on even tho the door is tightly closed. First thing that comes to mind is the extremely cold weather we've been having recently.

You DO have an end clutch. The end clutch is internal in the transmission and is what is in use when your car is in overdrive. There is still a good possibility that the end clutch (o/d) is junk. Make sure that you have the right fluid in the car (very very important) it takes only atf+3. And just as important I would get the owners manual out and check the fluid level EXACTLY the way that the manual says to, dont skip any steps. These transmissions are very strange and cant be checked the same was as an american transmission. You have to run the car through the gears sitting still, and then leave it in neutral and then some other stuff before you check the fluid level.

Yes I've also been told the owner's manual also says to leave overdive on all the time for normal driving. I always have overdrive on, no matter what, but if you leave overdrive on when you are going uphill, or anything like that, it's good to turn in off, so you don't where them down from the extra stress. Although this may not be the case with the newer uprgraded IPT end clutches.
