Hi,

I was wondering what will the consequence of not properly changing one's fuel filter, other than gas mileage will be bad? Any potential harmful problems, because since purchasing the car about 4 years ago, I have yet to change it and I dont think the previous own did so. THanks. :dsm:

in time, the filter can get clogged which would mean not enough fuel to the engine which in turn could cause detonation = bye bye engine. That is the worst case though.

Change the filter, its around $11 and its not that hard to do.

So i finally have time to change the fuel filter, and I was reading another post saying that on the later model of eclipse to get to the filter one has to jack up the car and it will be on near the rear right wheel well? can anyone confirm this, because I thought I could have done everything while with the back seat out. Thanks.:dsm:

Your fuel filter ins under the car, the one you are referring to is the strainer on the bottom of the pump which is different than the actual fuel filter, that is the only one you can get to throught the back seats.

Thanks for the quick reply. It is around 11pm right now in California, so I'll be changing the filter 2m. Just to make sure when I do jack up the car, will I be able to see the filter in plain sight? Sicne i don't every recall seeing anything down there...

Yeah, for a '97 N/T the filter should be attached to the exterior of the fuel tank on the passenger side.
