Hey guys, I just bought a 1995 white while I was checking it out, it had this ticking noise to it and thought it was only the timing but then when I gave it a tune up and everything, it still had the ticking to it. So, I researched it and read that 2g's crank walk because of the 7-bolt design and so my 2g does that by the timing belt area where the research would say it would be at. So what do you guy's suggest?

And also, my 95 has the factory fog lights and was wondering, is there a mod where you can turn the fog lights on without the head lights being on?

Any replies except mean ones are appreciated. THANKS!

Heres my 95 2g: only picked her up for $1100.00!

NT's don't crankwalk..

LOL for some reason I find your post the funniest thing in a long time. anyways yes any car can crankwalk the probability of a n/t is very slim, so you might want to start looking at other possibilities of where that noise is coming from.

To be fair I think you guys know what he meant. Yes all cars can crankwalk but the chance of it happening on a 7 bolt are a lot greater than some other engine.

You don't go around checking all cars for crankshaft endplay except for those cars with a known problem

You don't have the 7 bolt you referenced if you don't have a 4G63 engine. 2G nonturbos have 420a engines. Do you have an engine swap?

You can hardwire the fogs to a toggle switch. -But why?

I"m pretty sure this guy didn't do a motor swap, from 420a to 4g63, but yeah you can wire a toggle switch to the fogs you can prob pick the parts up at walmart for lie 10-20 bucks or so, or autozone, now for the ticking noise where exactly is it coming from the top or bottom of your motor can you tell at all? theres some oil treatment that you can add get it from walmart also I think it's made by stp that helped me out with a stupid ticking noise. does the ticking ever go away after driving, idling, reving up a little.

I wouldnt even mess with the fog light deal! and if its not a 4g motor just scrap it! unless your using it as a daily or something.

I would start by looking at the timing assembly, something could be getting worn out. like said earlier, could be lifter tick.

i've had 2 2g n/t now and i seem to always have a problem with the bearings spinning and it wasnt all that loud of a noise so you may want to look there... i thought it was a tick also mine burned oil pretty bad and it was always low on oil since i bought t and got worse and worse so you may wanna look there

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll look into all the things you guys suggested.

Whenever I take off in first I see the low oil light pop up in the cluster and the same whenever I zoom down a freeway off ramp.I always thought it was just the oil sloshing around the block but I'll definitely look into that.

The ticking is comming from the timing belt/timing belt cover area. The tick stays there as long as the car is on and when idling, it sounds like it's not there but when I rev it or push the car past 3k RPM it won't get loud but it would tick quicker and quicker. Yes, It does get annoying and puts worries in my head.

to me sounds like you have a lifter thats ticking I had the same problem in one of my talons it would never go away until the motor blew (not because of that though) then it stopped, I have a tick now in my eclipse non turbo but it usually goes away after a oil change and oil treatment added. time to open your motor up and inspect and see where it's ticking from.

If you really want to find the noise, get an automotive stethescope, have someone present to assist you in revving the engine, and listen at different parts of the engine. This will help you diagnose the location/source a lot easier.

Saying "There's a tick in the engine by the timing belt" is kind of hard to go by.

PS: You would notice the sound of crankwalk mostly in left turns, and your clutch would stick to the floor in hard turns. Also, the sound of crankwalk is more pronounced, like a lathe eating away at an old plastic Discman.
