I have read up, and couldnt find any information on here. Bascially, can I get away with just a head rebuild? or do I need to do a complete rebuild and buy a new engine. The car was said to have blown piston rings, any help will be appreciated.

how did someone come to this conclusion? you could try a compression and leakdown test. If the rings are the only thing wrong with it, you will have to take the head off and do some measuring, then pull apart the bottom end.

If you have blown rings that has nothing to do with the head, you will most likely have to take out the shortblock have it bored and "rehoned". If you "blew" the rings which is pretty bad probably scratched up the cyl. walls good thats why I say bore. Bottle hones work best for me the other ones seem to be a pain in the but when you get around to that part.

Yeah they did a compression test on the car. How much do you think it will run me?

First of all, get a second opinion from another mechanic. It is not certain that the rings are blown. Ask them how they determined if the rings are blown from a compression test. If they did not do a wet compression test (i.e. used engine oil), chances are they are bullshitting you. If your rings are actually blown, it is highly recommended that the block be rebuilt completely.

The car's engine is most defintly blown, it was not only a compression test. I trust the guy, I defintly think its the engine, the car barely goes when stomped to the floor, and tons of smoke billows out of the exhaust. Any places where I can find myself a used higher mileage 4G63T and swap it in?

Do you not have any local junkyards around like a "you-pull-it", that is where I get most of my engines from and friends do, it is 145.36 to get yourself an engine if you pull it.
