Hey i was thinking of undercoating my dsm so the winter salt wouldn't rust it, but a friend suggested that the particles of moisture would just be trapped between the undercoating and body. Thus making it rust faster. What is your guy's opinion.

Well our cars come with a stock undercoating, or at least mine did. Generally I haven't seen many if any that rust from the bottom. We usually find it in the fenders and what not. I'd say it would be if you have CRAZY winters, but for me it looks like it's a bit of a waste. But if you have the money, then go for it, just make sure it's COMPLETELY dry underneath.

I bought the 3M rubberized undercoating, and I have not problems or complaints, only that its a high gloss black, and it would be harder to tell if and when you have a leak... It holds up during the rain, salt, and snow... So, look into it, and dont coat your moving parts either.... It does work, so that is not the question....

Your gonna have to get ALL the moisture off the car before you spray though. Might be kinda hard this time of year but if there is any rusting started it won't help either.

Its a good thing. Usually shops do it for way less during the summer since you dont really need it then.

i also bough ta rubberized coatign and it works great for years but you have to beat sure thath you DO get all the moisture out, or it will rust the stock e coat thats baked on was kind of flaking so i bought that and it works the same and none of it has came off.

What moisture....Like old rust should be wire wheeled off and stuff or what? Like what steps did you guys take?

Getting rid of old rust would always be a good idea especially since it traps moisture. Just take it to a good shop to have it done they will do everything that needs to be done. Just shop around first. Ask them exactly what they do etc etc. You dont just want rubber undercoating. You want a moisture treatment and then undercoating.
