I've read about this little project. Seems like fun so I'm interested. I understand I need a tank, a c02 valve, some copper or aluminum piping, and that's it right? I have an air tank so I'm wonering if I can use that to store co2. If not explain why and suggest another cheap substitute. What else.. Right, how do I activate the pressure to release co2? Lmk.

Ok, I get a visual of what the parts are. Now how is the valve released electronically so I can press a button and spray?

I've seen setups that used a variety of mechanisms to activate the system:

1: Pressure switch (come on at a certain boost level)
2: TPS (comes on at WOT)
3: In car switch

Here is a link to a mfgr that offers all three options. Im not sure but you may be able to get some components al-a-carte: http://www.cryo2.com/products.asp?m=sp&pid=1

Wow, I would go with the push button. I still don't get it. I know it's not that complex but when it comes to this it confooses me. Can you break it down some more on how I can assemble this the cheap way?

I would prefer to stay away from CO2 unless you have a way to positively keep it away from the intake for the below reason,

CO2 displaces oxygen. Oxygen is one of the main ingredients to creating power with an internal combustion engine. What happens when that oxygen goes away? Simple. Power drops.CO2 displaces oxygen. When released anywhere near the air inlet of a car, it will displace the oxygen being drawn in by the air intake, thereby slowing the car down. This is why it is important to get the leftover CO2 as far away from the engine compartment of your car as possible.

That's my project idea. I plan on spray the ic just to keep it cold. So can someone explain the electric mechanism works to me?

Hmm, a solenoid. First thing that pops in my head is the starter. :p Is there a site that you know of that has pictures of what your talking about. I can get a better visual with that.

Ok I couldnt find any breakdown pics for some reason so I drew a lame one. :D

The red is the coil of wire around that black object (pintle). In a real solenoid the coil is wound really tight, thats the key to the electro part of it. When power is applied to one side and the other is ground out, the coil creates a magnetic force that forces the object out. Make sense? Its kinda like holding a slimy fish. WTF Stay with me here! When youre just holding it with two hands nothin happens. When you sqeeze it (power applied) Itll shoot out and fall on the ground. :thumb:

Oh and since I was so on with the drawing ..........

I like to switch on the ground side as long as its not too far away from the solenoid. Less spark and load on the switch that way.
