Sussex,
hey guys i am asking a question to get some opinions, i have a 90 Tsi with a few mods and i am looking into getting into tuning.... i have a laptop and i am wondering what my best bet would be to go with... and remember im not rich LOL ]

thanks alot

For budget Tuning, looking at your mods, you should be able to buy a logger check www.obdloggers.com (DSM specific) and pick up an SAFC-II. You can adjust fuel and air trims and make the most out of your setup.

The way i see it, it depends what your future plans for the car are. If it is going to stay how it is or see only minor upgrades in the future then the logger/safc2 will be great. However if you plan on upgrading to larger injectors or a big turbo down the road I would reccomend dsm link. It really isn't that much more expensive and it will give you room to grow. It will allow you to tune quite a bit better than the logger/safc unit.

With a DSMLINK setup however, and on your car, you are looking at $500 for the link, and anywhere's from $100-300 for an EPROM ecu. Thats $600-800 for the link, and for ~$300 you can have a full standalone system that you build yourself. Megasquirt
There are plenty of DSM's succesfully running the 'Squirt, just search around and you'll find all the info you need. Plus there is a forum just for the 'Squirt.
Also checkout DIY Autotune as "Parish" has a 11 sec twin turbo truck that is 'Squirt powered. All the products can be bought on that website.

well i am having a 3 inch turbo back being put on this week, no cat, planning on a 16G with a 2g manifold and FMIC thats my plans

i was told that my ECU is a EPROM????

and do many ppl use this megasquirt???

For your plans the logger SAFC combo would work well. It would allow you to upgrade to as large as 650cc injectors when you get the money which is should be perfect for that setup.

Megasquirt seems to be gaining alot of fans in the DSM community. It is by no means a plug and play setup. There is alot of complicated wiring but you will get a cheap full standalone.

Another option that I will throw out there that I'm working on and others is DS-MAP. This uses the stock computer and an Ostrich EPROM emulator to tune the car with the factory computer. The cost will be alittle less than a Megasquirt. It will switch your car to Speed Density but you will have full tuning capabilitys. Check out the website and if you need some contact info if your interested PM me. This is in development but it is growing. http://www.ds-map.net
