OKay first off I already have the Dejon Super sidemount but looking to go for something a little bigger as it starts to heat soak around 21psi and 50 trims like a bit more than that:D

But i dont want to start hacking up my car so i am not going short route piping so i was thinking about using a intercooler such as

but i dont see very many dsm running with this style intercooler. I would think that this style would be much superior as opposed to say the greddy with the pipe that comes back in front of the IC. Thing i am not to sure about is the LICP i have a rs49T with a 90* welded elbow to the passenger side. ( why i want to go with a 1side intercooler) I figure the cold pipe would be simple enuf just a short pipe to where my dejon sidemount meets my upper intercooler pipe.

also if anyone is running this style IC please throw up some pictures so i can see how you routed the piping under the bumper.

well from what I can see, the intercooler is a bar and plate design, that's a good thing however, with the rows running up and down instead of side to side, the air must enter the inlet, make a complete 90 degree turn, flow thru the bars then make another complete 90 degree turn, i would think it would be restrictive, compared to a side-to-side intercooler where the air comes in the inlet and either go's stright thru the bars or angle off a bit and at a gradual rate then thru the bars.
I would get the flow numbers, pressure drop and temp drop and compare them to a "normal intercooler.
I would also clock the turbo to exit to the drivers side and help the pipe routing.

edit: also with the bars running up and down, the air doesnt run thru but about 6-8 inches of bar and plate to cool, not a lot of time compared to a side to side intercooler with 28-30 inchs of bar and plate to run the air thru, altho the section area or cubic inches of intercooler area is close to a "normal" intercooler.

I run a 50 trim on a Dejon Sidemount with a 2.3 stroker at 25psi on pump gas daily and it takes a few passes to heatsoak it. I'm never installing an FMIC and would prefer to run a methanol system for the best cooling effect. Even the best IC can't compare to methanol injection and perhaps you'll want to consider it as well. Pound for pound, there is no better mod to make your pump gas act like race gas for the money.

Just something to think about.

Andy

P.S. If you're dead set on an FMIC, take a look at some of the ebay cores in addition to the offerings from Extreme Intercoolers.

For my short route FMIC, I just trimmed a little off from the inside of my bumper. It was barely anything and not noticeable unless you're kissin it. I'd stick to side to side FMICs if I was you. Liquid to air ICs are hands down the best cooling ICs but they are high maintenance. Gotta love my race gas too.

Thats for sure once my FMIC is installed im going to get some injection. I know how it all works and all but how long would a full tank of 75%meth 25%water last. Ive heard a lot of people running 350+whp with just a sidemount. Constantly running injectiion how long would a full tank last?

Imo, the way that is designed, you'll probably get similar cooling capability to your super smic because of the length of the bars, however it will handle more volume. It's like stacking 2.5 to 3 super smics side by side instead of lengthwise. Definately looks inefficient for the reason everyone already stated.

Yea what he said. Poor distribution on a core that long. Get a regular side/side flow core. Dejon has a cheap one.

Those intercooler types are poor in almost any applications because of how the air flows and the fact the air coming out of it is the same place the heat soak starts. There is a guy named JR around my area actually that most people probably have heard of that makes the biggest front mount for our cars that doesnt require any hacking or cutting of anything and will support up to 400-450hp. If you want some more info PM me as i dont think im allowed to give his site info here.
