You really don't need it on a 14b. You can only run so much PSI before you start runnin out of breath.
I didnt look at your mods but if you have 3 inch exhaust and a unported 14b then you probably have some boost creep. I plan on running a external on my ported 14b. I was looking at the ssautochrome o2 housing with the external gate plumbed in. If you port out the wastegate hole on the 14b it should work pretty good. It is alot easier to control boost with a external. The only downside is that it weighs alittle more then a internal and it might take up alittle more space.

also theres the nose of, as some would say, "gates of hell." it very loud when the waste gate opens. but i guess that depends on if you would like that or not.

There is always the option of getting an external that dumps back into the exhaust stream. I have an internal gate that dumps to the atmosphere and "gates of hell" is right. It's fun for about a month then it gets real old, real annoying, real fast.

2.5" custom turbo back and a ported 14b turbo

Thanks for the help guys...ill have to look into it. hopefully someone around me that has one will have one on somesort of car.

i dont have a cat so im not too worried about it. LOL all my Emissions shit is pretty much gone(vaccumme lines) I have a 2.5 inch turbo back custom exaust with a 4" megan muffler. and a 14b fully ported turbo. I dont think there is any boost creep. Atleast i havent noticed it when it ran. LOL:beatentodeath:

I wouldn't worry about getting an external gate unless you want to, b/c you can use the $$$ for better things w/ your setup it sounds like? It gives you more and better flexibility w/ boost control and response, but it's more for bigger turbos w/ lots of boost, but it doesn't have too be. I prob wouldn't worry about it unless you go bigger than a 16g turbo. Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys this helps alot. I will never need one because im not planning on going any bigger than a 16G. I would leave some rep but the icon isnt there.

The biggest draw back with an external is noise and underhood temperature since you'll lose the ability to use your top, bottom or both heatshields. To me, an external wastegate's main purpose, in our setup, isn't to control boost creep because most can be cure through proper porting alone, instead it's main function is to hold higher boost levels as most internal setups have a tendency to get blown open by exhaust pressure at 22+psi. In your case an external is not needed at all and money should be spent elsewhere.

Im not to worried about the heat shields because i have a 2nd gen manifold and i dont have a heat shield for it. Plus I dont know if i can put a heat shield on a First gen car for a 2nd gen manifold.(also have a slowboy raceing J pipe so that might get in the way as well. thanks.I think im staying away from the external because im not going up to 22lbs thanks

Yes it will fit and there is no reason to not run it, it will make a big difference in your intake temperarture which you would be able to see easily if you were logging.

If you want to take it a step further, you can ceramic coat it, like I did and you will be very happy for the very little amount of money it costs to coat it. I just posted this in another thread, but after long drives or hard driving I can touch my hand to the shield and I don't get burned or lose any skin...:tease:...Now it still is hot, but it will cut down engine temps and help w/ heatsoak...:thumb:...I recommend for the money...it will help either way though. Its better to have one then not have one at all, thats why they are there...so ceramic coating will help alot, either 1600-2000+ degree coating...I went w/ the 1600+ paint, it was silver, by tech line, but Jet hot makes some and the black tech line is 2000+, its more for manifolds and turbo housings...just something to think about or whatever...you can take it and if you don't like it you can throw it right back at me...ROFL :p PM me it you can't find one, b/c I have the O2 housing shield and the manifold shield, but you shouldn't have a hard time finding one at a junkyard...Good luck.:thumb:

1G : 2.0 NT or turbo.

2G : only turbo.

ok my car has a 2nd gen manifold on it...so which shield am i gonna have to get? the 1gen or the 2nd gen? There isnt any turbo cars in a junk yard around here. how much is this ceramic coating?

You want the 2g heatshiled! I have a manifold heat shield I can sell you, but PM me for info, and the Techline coating I got was basically this...I got my Megan O2 eliminator Downpipe coated w/ my heatshield for $65 out the door, but that is here in WA...so hope that gives you a place to start, so not too expensive;) . I could get mine done for you if you send me the money, but PM me w/ any other Q's about it, but it shouldn't be too expensive and some exhaust shop around where you live should do it or know who does it...:thumb:

That ceramic coat sounds interesting. Who does work like this?

I have a powdercoat place that also does my ceramic coating for me too. Jethot is supposed to be the best, but very expensive from what I hear? But I haven't done much research on techline, but everything I hear about them is good so far...:thumb:
