Well i finally got a beater car. So i can afford down time and am going to be tearing the head off to put in 1g cams and new cam angle sensor and 3g lifters. I am still contemplating cam gears since some say they are a waste. I am on a very limited budget and am looking for anything i can do for cheap. I have a friend that works at a machine shop so i can get cheap work. 1995 tsi by the way.

Also i am installing new xtd stage3 clutch and fidanza flywheel w/oem tob. What else should i do while in there. SlowBoy lsd insert??. I already have new slave and master cylinder.

I will be also painting and doing my body work this winter which will take most of my time.

Cam gears are for further advanced tuning, more or less once you've got higher goals in mind. A lot of people here, including myself, and I rebuilt my engine with racing parts, don't use adjustable cam gears. They're more for getting every last, little bit of HP out of your car, at least as I understand it. As for cheaper HP mods, feel free to consult the various FAQs available on the forum here.

while your at it a 1g tb would help. Cam gears would be a waste unless you have time and money to sit at a dyno for a couple hours degreeing them on each expensive run just to gain a few hp. Not good if were thinking hp per dollar.

thanks for the replies guys. I will not go with adjustable cam gears. I know this is not head work but what do you think about stroker? I know ppl say no with fwd. But i can pick up a 2.4 crank for a good price and buy some good stroker pistons. You think stroke it or just bigger turbo. After this winter it will be a weekend worrior/ track car. With slicks at the track of coarse. Any thoughts? My goals are low 13s maybe high 12s by the end of summer 2007.
