turbo problem

ok heres my problem guys. my turbo usually spooled very quickly and loud a T-25. at 3500rpm I could hear it spooling already . now my car isnt pulling or creating boost till 5500 rpm and I cant reach full boost. it takes the car for ever for my gauge to reach 12psi. I did a boost leak test today and everything is fine. any suggestions??? thanx for your help
 
Is the WG actuator arm still on? They are kept on by a coter(sp?) pin. It has a tendancy to rust and snap off or fall out. I would check and make sure the fins are ok on the turbine. Perhaps the WG flapper is stuck open, and it would take for ever for boost to build, like how you are discribing.

You would have to pull the DP, and with a flash light while under the car look inside the smaller port hole on the o2 housing it should have a little flapper that acts like a door, if it is stuck open when its not running this is your problem, make sure everything is cool before doing this.

Try moving the arm back and forth. Is it hard? Also, with the motor idling, does your exhaust sound louder or like it's coming from the engine bay? If so, you might have an exhaust leak. Check all your nuts from head to manifold, and bolts from manifold to turbo. If you have a pre-turbo exhaust leak, it will sacrifice spool.
 
ok so i found out that my problem is not the turbo but my wastegate accutator. it stays stuck so it wont open or close. I put some wd-40 on it and played with it a bit untill i was able to move it back and forth with my hand. when I took the car out for a spin it started to boost again and I was able to hear the turbo again but it got stuck again. so its my acctuator. can I grease it up ? wd40 it or some thing ???called the dealer , they say I need to buy the entire turbo because they dont sell that . any one have one from an old t 25?

Do not buy a new turbo from the dealer. That'll be a rip off. Peruse the classifieds for someone parting a car out. There's usually at least one posted per day. It should be like $10 or so. Are you looking for the acutator or actuator arm? If you aren't going to get a new turbo or ever upgrade to external wastegate, you could even get an aftermarket actuator. You can get them with a certain psi spring, so no need to mess around with a boost controller. Just something to think about.
 
If you want to stay stock I would say skip the T-25, and go with a 14B off the classifieds, you can get them pretty cheap, or just get the actuator arm like Derek mentions.

Ok guys after some more investigating I figured it out. It is not the turbo. It is not the actuator. It is the flapper inside the exhaust housing. I removed the actuator and the arm because you should be able to move the flapper open and close but this isnt happening . It feels like its getting stuck inside. some one told me that they tend to move out of place and to just take a hammer to it. Anyone ever had this problem?
