Hey guys,
If this topic has been covered I apologise but my search found nothing.

My 2.3 is about to be finished and I have a DSMLink on the way to tune it. I'm aiming for 400whp, what MASwould be suitable to run it? I have a GM 3" MAS here but don't like the idea of getting a translator just so I can run it with the DSMLink

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Dan

A 2g mas will get you to 400 hp and it is a much cheaper conversion. I think I am going to go that route on my car.

2G MAS!!!!!!!!! I just switched back from the gm maf to the stock 2g mas and car runs flawlessly. Also, you can use the fake maf feature with dsmlink if you overrun the stock mas. My buddy runs 10.7's in his 2g with a t67 and a 2g mas using the fake maf feature of dsmlink and he loves it.

How bad is it when you have lets say a Tial bov that can not return the air back to the intake. Does it run like crap or is this something that can be tuned out ?

I have always wondered that too.

Venting to the atmosphere is discussed ALOT on here. You should search for more info, but long story short: If you have a 1g or 2g maf sensor, your car will compensate for the air that gets recirculated so if it isn't getting recirculated, you will have problems. If you have a GM MAF in "blow-through" mode (on the UICP between the BOV and TB) then your car will run fine venting to the atmosphere because the air is metered after the BOV.

With all of the bad stuff I keep hearing about the GM MAF, I think I might go with the 2g.

I would say it would still perform much like standard, where it would dump fuel (run rich)

Thanks for the imput guys. I haven't received my DSMLink yet so could someone also tell me what options the DSMLink gives as far as MAF's go? So I can get one while its in shipping...
We have 055 (magna) and 609 (EVO 1-3) which are "2G style" but I doubt they will be selectable in this case.
I could get my hands on a EVO7/8/9 MAF i guess

Dont get me wrong, I know what its like having a Return Style BOV and venting that. I was more concered with drivablility with a nicer Tial or SSQV BOV. Since they arent open at idle, im sure it would be a bit easier to drive around on.

The only time you have a really big problem with venting the bov on a stock mas setup is when the bov leaks at idle. Than the car stalls and won't idle correctly. If you have an aftermarket bov, the car will run a lil rich in between shifts but nothing that affects driveability. My buddy who runs 10s has a 2g mas with a tial bov and no problems whatsoever.

He must be lucky because everyone I know that has tried, run rich, stall out, and misfire. Its not a good idea to vent with the stock maf's. However it can be done with some side effects. I guess if you go with a stock maf you would want to make sure you have a BOV that recirculates or you are screwed?

Everyone i know that vents on the stock mas with an aftermarket bov has no problems whatsoever. However, i do not recommend it :)

I had a Turbosmart atmo venting BOV with no I'll effects but a defect sticker from the cops :p

Can anyone answer my second set of questions? :)

When ordering dsmlink, you can specify stock or hacked mas (1g/gvr4 or 2g). If you go with another mas like the evo or 3g eclipse mas, you will have to adjust the airflow sliders to calibrate the mas which is done by comparing boost to the estimated boost in dsmlink. I believe they have the recommended settings for an evo 8 mas so if you get that, you can just get the settings from the dsmlink forums. They may have it for the 3g eclipse mas but the gm maf and the early evos (unless similar to the dsm or new evo mas) will need to be calibrated. It's not that hard to do.

So go with a 2g mas, 3g eclipse mas or an evo mas and leave it unhacked for best results.
