Last night was my first night I took my car to the drags. I wanted to record and keep the times to see what my improvement are with experience and mods in the future. Before I left to go to the drags I put Octane Boost formula into my car it was Lucas brand and about 12 bucks worth of gas with it on top of about another quarter tank already in. As soon as I started my car the check engine light was on. I drove to the drags popped the hood and check all my hoses they were fine. Only thing difference I thought was I put octane boost in and mage the o2 sensor was reading something weird. Well I talked to a few people there and they told me to unhook my battery for about 3 mins hook it back up and start it and the check engine light did go off. They said the o2 sensor would read it right then.

Basically what Im tring to get to is if it really was the o2 sensor and could I of hurt something by putting the octane booster in and having the check engine light come on? Or by unhooking the battery is this just avoiding the problem for now?

Octane boosters like Torco, NOS, Lucas, NX (hell all of them) are marked as safe for oxygen sensors unless they contain lead. The only time you'd have a problem with O2 readings is if you used a lead based octane booster, but you'd need to run that over a long period of time to damage the O2 since the concentration relative to the unleaded fuel in tank is minimal.

Typically, most tuners use race gas and observe that the O2 becomes sluggish until the lead deposits burn off and the O2 cycles normally. I'd have the code read if it ever pops up again so you can accurately pinpoint what the problem was.

Someone last night tried to get the code to come up on my car I never knew you could get a code and he never got it to work. He turned my key like three times and nothing happened. How can I get the code to pop up?
