i'm going to visit some buddys that live about an hour away. I have a non turbo and when i go 70 it runs at about 3200 rpms is that bad on the car at all?

Is it bad to go 70 in overdrive at 3,200rpms, for an hour? I don't think that could be bad for anycar, unless the engines having problems.. Curiosity, whats the n/t redline at?(never driven one)

it should be fine. My dads Svt focus cruises down the highway in 6th at 85mph at 4k RPM's. We took it in a 3 hour drive even to get my talon from Road race, so no i wouldnt worry about it at all!

What do you guys normally cruise at. Because like this guy, I tend to drive slow because I hate having the RPM way up there for long periods of time. I'd like to be able to drive at 80-90mph on road trips but that's over 4k.OMG Instead I putt along at 65-70mph which I still think has the RPMs way up there. I'm used to Toyota automatics that have 5th gears so tall you can do 100mph and be under 3,000rpm.

You could probably safely run your car at 5k RPMS doing well over 100. I used to drive a 1995 Plymouth Neon and it was only a 3speed (no overdrive). I would drive it 300 miles with the RPMs in the 4k+ range doing 100 to go back and forth to college. The car lasted well over 120k miles on it...then my mom totalled it.

I drive 30-45 minutes to work each day during the week, much of which is highway, and routinely hold steady at ~3600-3800 RPM. I don't feel that I have ever done any damage to my vehicle by doing so either. :rocks:

Yeah I cruise about 75 at around 3500ish-rpm for about an hour everyday to work. I've been on several road trips to the great lakes, crusing about 6 hours at 5000ish-rpm at well over 100 steady.. I made that trip 3 times, with rod knock amoung all my other problems... Never did any damage haha.

That rpm range is just when the car is starting to kick into its prime. I also hate the feel of my car at those rpms when in cruise but hey what ya gonna do add another gear? LOL I wish...oh what the joys of a 6spd would be...just that extra gear and bam we'd be in the 30mpg range LOL
