I recently bought a 91 talon tsi awd with a 14b turbo and 3.5" exhaust. When I first got the car 2 weeks ago, it was fast. when i even pulled out in first gear, i could feel the car just pull me, even right when i tapped on the gas. Now when i start to go, in any gear, (mainly in first because i can tell in first), it seems like it makes me want to shift around 3-4 rpms, when im flooring it. I took it for a ride last night and i was in 2nd gear, and when it started going around 5-6 rpms, it started to kick back and acted really odd, and wouldnt really let me go any further, as opposed to before when i used to easily get up to 5-6 before switching gears. my turbo spools fine, i think. it gets to 10 psi which is what mine is set to. i also hear a weird sound inside the engine, it sounded like either right under the valve cover or a gear next to the bottom of the engine, but it sounded like it was like snarling, and when i accelerated, it gets higher pitched and more repititious. I just got my exhaust leak in my flex pipe fixed, I got my radiator leaks fixed, and replaced my pcv valve, cleaned my intercooler piping and k&n air filter. it started to happen when i did lose my exhaust leak from the flex pipe. please help!

How bad was the leak? It could be a clogged cat. The noise sounds like it could be the throw out bearing, sometimes they whine and the slower feel could be the clutch. Not sure though just some options to check out.

that definatly sounds like a clogged cat. cause it cant push out all the exhaust fumes higher up in the rpm range.

Yeah, especially since this happened after the leak was fixed. I'd look into the cat like mentioned.

It really sounds like a clogged cat, in which case gives you the oppurtunity to get a test pipe :)

if you have a logger you can use that to check for timing getting pulled, probly because of knock. If you dont have one GET ONE! Ebay is good i got one or $5 on there and works flawlessly.

this was happening to me when I finished rebuilding my 93 tsi. It ended up being the spark timing was off some. I loosened up the thing on the passenger side top of the head and turned it some and drove it and turned it some and drove it, until I got it set good.

Well since you do not have a cat then i would say to check for a boost leak or if anything has become disconnected in the engine bay.

I found my problem. The MAF in the intake was fried. Tried out my friends, and works BEAUTIFULLY. I have other posts also, so this would apply to all of them. I would like to thank all, and andy especially for helping me out and taking the time to appreciate the hard work of us that own a dsm. If any has this problem, PLEASE PM ME! i will try to help out as much as possible. I also adjusted some timing as well, and some idle just to perfect it as much as possible for idle. Just make sure that the intake filter is completely sealed because if its not, your car can die when you are driving and pushing in the clutch because the air can vacuum right back out the intake, so make sure it is done right when swapping an MAF. thanks buddies. :thumb:
