So someone wanted to drive my car to see how the turbo felt and what not. It was a friend who also drove a stick. Well it has a stage 2 clutch in it which kind of caught him off guard. He drove horrible, we only went about a mile and a half but there were stop lights and what not. When we got out of the car the smell of the clutch burning was awful. The clutch only has like 1500 miles on it but now it grinding when I try to shift into second occasionally. Im wondering what is the life expectancy of the a clutch if enough damage could be done in that short of period of time or not.

Thanks,
Jeremy HOefer

What kind of stage 2 clutch? Most stage 2 of any vendor should stand up to a pretty good beating. You can sometimes have some slipping problems due to glazing, but for that to happen you have to beat on it pretty hard.

If he was driving for a short time and doing that bad, im going to assume he was not launching it hard or anything like that. I cant imagine him doing that much damage if it was a relatively new clutch, although if he got the car bucking real bad and what not, you could need to re-adjust the clutch itself. It could just be having minor engagement problems.

If you get a little more in depth, I am sure we can add more..What is the state of the transmission. Did you have any issues with it before? How many miles etc

No he didnt launch it or anything just didnt fully disengage it so it was just getting really hot. Its really stiff for me to shift into second usually but doesnt grind however the other night it did I did get it to shift into second but not as easy as usual. There is only 1200 miles on the clutch. I cant remember what brand it is but it was installed on the car when i got it with 500 miles. Could you please explain how it could be installed wrong, or what happens if it is installed wrong? I plan on just adjusting a small amount but i wanted to make sure that not too much damage could have occured. He is a good friend and asked if we needed to go get some money out of the bank to replace it because he felt bad but i really didnt think there could be a problem with it. As soon as he was done driving it, I drove it and it seemed like it was actually gripping more and disengaged alot later for awhile but after it sat that ended.

Thanks,
Jeremy Hoefer

There should be an inch of free play on the clutch pedal. Does yours have the free play or no? If not just get it adjusted.

No there is no free play, as soon as you let off the clutch it is gripping but i cant really adjust the pedal out on the master cylinder shaft anymore. That is the correct way to adjust it so that the pedal pushes the shaft in the farthest correct?
