is there really a large difference in power or spool between using the factory maf w/ aftermarket intake pire and airfilter and using the gm maf? If anyone has ran both or seen both please let me know if you feel it made a difference. I'm about to do my intake and unsure what to do.

The stock MAF is slightly more restrictive and hampers spool, but not by a huge margin (it really depends on the setup). The disadvantage to the stock MAF is that once you reach a certain amount of airflow, it will overrun. The stock MAF can run some fairly good numbers however and is capable of around 450 crank horse before overrun.

I flow plenty of air at 25 psi and if you look at Staytuned's Talon, he runs a large FP turbo on a stock MAF without issue. It's definitely good enough for mid to high 11's. Most people use the MAFT as a tuning device to compensate for larger injectors or simply to vent the BOV. I don't care for it as a tuning device since it has a tendency to lie to the ECU (like an AFC) and increase the timing curves as a result of subtracted airflow. If you used the MAFT for the purpose of venting or quickening spool and had another tuning device like DSM Link or a Keydiver chip then I'd say go for it, but based on your profile you're nowhere close to needing one yet.

Take it for what you will, but I think you could get more bang for the buck elsewhere.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Well I think that sums it up

Listen to him he knows what he is talking about, you would benifit much more from gettin a DSMLink.

Andy was dead on.

Another advantage by having a 2G MAF or rerouted GM MAF is that that during shifts, it keeps the turbo spooled up. Most people using the GM MAF end up venting to atmosphere.
