Stripped wheel stud

so i was taking off my front driver side wheel to do a brake job...when i noticed that one of the lugs was spinning but not backing out, i knew it was stripped but i kept going praying it would come off, after some time i got it out..my question is, do i have to buy a whole new hub, or can i just replace that stud?
thank for your help
-Neal

You can replace the stud. One of mine snapped on my rear drivers side wheel and I was quoted around 50 to have it replaced so I just said screw it and I still only have 4 on that wheel. One of these days I will get around to replacing it.

Replacing it is really easy, more so if you have electric/air powered impact wrenches:

Hammer out the old stud. Make use you use a fairly big hammer. Hammer it straight out. Hit the stud head on. Don't sit there and tap it out. Hit it like you mean it. You don't want to sit there and baby it and have to hit it many times as you will bend the stud and risk hitting other studs by accident. Give it a good blow.

Next, put the new stud in the hole from the back. Slid on 2 washers (this is important as the 2 washers will act as bearings) and then a lug nut (open head, not dome capped). Tighen the lug nut until it draws the stud all the way into the hub/steering knuckle.

The stud should cost around $1-$2 dollars. Just saved you $48 (:

well if your going to do it yourself, which I didnt because they were rusted to $#%@, and had to be torched out, Then I recommend doing only one.

If you drag race alot, and if you AWD (which you don't have obviously with the N/T under hood) I would replace all 5 b/c I have seen people sheer studs at the track.

When I bought my car I bought 20 studs and lug nuts and did them all. I recommend doing all five on that wheel while you are at it. I could not trust that the previous owner did not overtorque the lugnuts that were left (most were broken off or stripped) especially considering some of the handiwork that I found on the car. I think the total cost was less than $40.
