I pulled my turbo off today and i saw on the inside of the compressure housing (where it bolts up to the manifold, dont know if that is exactly what its called) that there were two cracks. They are good lenght and have enough of a gap to get my finger nail in. They do not reach all the way out to he outside of the housing yet. I take it that i have to get a new turbo. (this is on a 14b) I was needing to port this anyway because of boost creep but i dont know if the amount of material i will take off would get rid of the cracks. I have only ran this at 15psi, and i dont drive like jackass. So time for a new turbo?

If the cracks are not all the way through, There is no use replacing it yet if you don't have the money. Also, It's the turbine housing. The compressor housing is the cold side where your intake pipe goes. If you ported the whole lip away from the turbine housing, You would probably be porting out the cracks anyways, If they're how you describe them...

Yea, you're right. It is the turbine housing. I didnt bother to read the 'where it bolts up to the manifold' part.

I don't know...if the cracks are big enough to fit your fingernail into, that sounds a bit big. If you're going to port it, you might want to see if you can pick up a used, non-cracked turbine housing (I'd be suprised if you couldn't convince someone to give it to you free + shipping). You're weakening the housing when you port it, so you might end up with a broken housing. Too bad it's not a T25, as I have a ported one in my garage that I practiced porting with before porting my B28.

It'd be a shame to spend the time (and/or money) porting only to have it fail.

Every 14b ive ever seen has had cracks inside the ex housing, and theyve all boosted fine. Id worry more about shaft play and seals before I would cracks in the ex housing.

If theyre that bad I'd pull the o2 housing off and check the cracks around the wastegate flapper, you may be surprised.
