alright, ive got to clean just about every part on my engine of my eclipse and want to know the easiest way to clean them. I am upgrading a few parts but i still will need to clean the majority of my parts. I have grime thats been built up for a while and some that just wont come off with a wire brush. I have an aluminum wire brush and a brass one. I have already cleaned the pistons and the oil pan and now am on the crankshaft and have been cleaning for about 5-6 hours on it with a wire brush and i still have about half of it left to clean. Any advice will help. (if this has been covered just tell me and i will find it)

I'd get a parts washer. You can get them for about 75.00. The solution to go in to it is about another 50.00. It will last you a long time. If you do this dont get the sope type. You can order one fron a company called Harbor freight. Decent $.

I kind of want to do it all myself but if i can't...understandable. Just trying to keep the price to clean low and use my money for mods. If it doesn't cost too much then I'll take them to a machine shop, like you said.

There is a product called "Simple Green", it works really well. You just spray your engine with it, let it sit, rinse it off, and it's clean as a whistle.

I have plenty of patience. it's taken a long time for me to clean the crank with a brass and stainless steel wire brush. Finally finished it today.

Brake parts cleaner or gasoline or alcohol, but be careful with the last two. I'd let the parts sit for at least 24 hours after washing with them gasoline or alcohol before reinstalling and putting them to use, just to be on the safe side. I've used gasoline and it cleans stuff real nice, makes them nice and shiny.

I think the only way to get every bit of dirt and grime off of your block, and other parts would be to go to a local machine show and have them Hot Tank it. You will be amazed at the result's your block will look like it just rolled off of the assembily line.

Would i want to rinse the parts after letting them sit for 24 hours or will they be fine just letting them sit for 24 hours and no rinse?

You have to watch using gasoline. It will actually leave a film on the parts. I would recommend brake parts cleaner. Make sure when you cleaned that crank that you flushed out the oil passages. We have seen alot of cranks in the machine shop that were "clean". Most of them still had alot of crap in them. The Oil will turn into a grey clanish consistancy. Good luck.:rocks:

Little trick i learned while working at coke.........use a bucket of coca cola, the regular kind, you will be surprised, we cleaned chrome bumpers with it before

I never did. Even though it may leave a 'film', after 24-48 hours of sitting, they are very dry. Also remember that when you put everything back together you need to put small amounts of oil between internal touching metal surfaces (i.e bearings w/ crank, camshafts w/ head, etc.). But like I said, you've got to be careful still.
I've heard of the Coke thing.... but I'd much rather drink it!:thumb:
Good luck to you.
