Hey I was wondering if the 96 cams and the 98 cams are the same, because I am trying to mount the cas ontop of the valve cover and the dealer said there is a bolt that screws into the back of the cam and i cant find it, Its a 96 cam. Thanks

Nope, 95-96 are different from the 97-99's in the way they handle the CAS. This is the reason that any 97-99 that uses an EPROM ECU needs CAS inversion and plug wire rearrangement to work with the older computer.

Exactly. Two different cas' and two different mounting locations. To use the '96 cams you will have to drill and tap the hole for the '97 cas.

HI there, I was wondering if anybody can tell me why my car does not have cam sensor. I have owned dozen of theese cars and i picked this one up today and guy told me it wouldnt stay running. It trys to start. I noticed there isnt no cams sensor on the valve cover and the crankshaft one is unplugged! Totally blew my mind. On the valve cover there is just a rubber plug where there usually is one. Did they make them without or can it go without? You replys will be greatly appreciated. Also what kinda plug does cam sensor usually plug into and how many pins. Maybe I can try and find the plug for one. THanks, Larry

What year is the car? 95-96 4G63s had separate sensors and a rubber plug in the end of the head where the CAS would be since the cam sensor is on the gear end behind the intake gear.

Hey Thanks for your reply, It is a 97 but maybe it was a earlier build 96 but a 97 model. Where would the other sensors be. I know theres a crank sensor which my other 97 had but since i dont have the cas where would the other ones be. Thanks, Larry

Hey Guys, Im absolutely positive its a 97. car /title says and it has high rear spoiler with big mouth front end So it doesnt make any sense to me. Where would it be if its 95 96 style? Thanks, Larry

If it's a 97 head/engine, the non-adjustable CAS should be on the passenger end of the intake cam (where the rubber plug is). If it's a 95/96 head, the CAS (also non-adjustable) is a small, open sensor that mounts on the head on the driver's end of the intake cam. The cam gear looks different from the normal 4G63 cam gears (it's solid instead of spoked) because it has a sensor trigger plate mounted to it to trigger the cam sensor. IMHO, the best way to go is to replace both the crank/cam sensors by installing a black top 1G sensor where the rubber plug is and get a wiring harness adapter from RRE (or make your own) to hook it up.
