Question Firewall holes? [Merged] drill, drilling, pass-thru, wire, gauge, power, passenger

Hey, where did you guys route your power wire through the firewall (in a 2g)?? The only place that I have really found is the steering wheel boot....

I drilled a hole on the upper part of the firewall on the drivers side. The wire went through and dropped right into the interior.

There is a grommet in the passenger side foot wheel that leads right through the firewall. Its where most of the internal wiring runs into the engine bay. From the engine, its under your battery tray.

hole in firewall?

does anyone know if there is a pre-existing hole in the firwall of a 97 Eclipse GST that i could use to run my amp wire through, and if not then where a good place to run it would be.

I couldnt find an existing hole so i drilled a hole on the drivers side firewall. Just be careful and make sure there are no wires in that area.

I believe there is supposed to be a good place behind or below the battery on a 2g turbo. I it has been said that there is a grommet there where all the factory wire go through that you can use. I haven't checked this out myself yet but will be within the next week or so since my stereo is finally ready to be wired up.

Why don't you just run the 2 gauge cable through and then run the 8 gauge you need off of a distribution block from the 2 gauge.

The 2 guage is for a 1200 watt RMS amp at 12.5 volts (MTX 1000d) so it needs all of the wire to itself. I just drilled a hole on the passenger side of the factory grommet and put it through there (the 8 guage). And put the 2 guage through the factory grommet after about 45 minutes or trying.

Yeah tell me about it. I just put a 4 gauge through last night an man it was a pain in the a$$. I guess it would have been easier if I removed the battery tray but I was too stupid to do that.

Angry Firewall hole!?

Ok, I'm installing my sub and amp but I can't even find the hole in the firewall to thread the wire through. I have a 1G, so if someone could tell me where the hole is and how to get to it would be great. Also, my headunit is a b!tch to get out, got any suggestions, the headunit is aftermarket by the way. Thanks.

Why can't you just route it the standard way, through the rubber steering boot??

Follow the steering column down to the firewall. There will be a black rubber boot on the FW that the column goes through. Just cut a slit in this boot and run your cable through.
