You need your Maf unless you have speed density. Your car need to measure the air intake flow somehow.

Yes you may be a dsm noob, but there is a search function on this site to weed out questions like this. To ask a question like this shows you are not ready.

Just search search search. If you knew what a maf was and did then you could have answered your own question and knew why you shouldnt and cant remove it.

The proper steps would have been to search and research the dsm maf, then the maft, then the safc. Once you had a good foundation, then learn how to use them and how to tune with them.

Sorry, its just a pet peeve of mine, when people insist on messing with things that they have no clue about.

I was recently told a story about a local guy who "built" his bottom end himself. He cranked the main bolts down by hand. The crank wouldnt spin so he backed them off "a bit" till it spun. Then ran the motor like that. And "spun" it did. He then went on a rant on how these motors are junk and he'll never "build" one aagin lol

Sorry for the back story, this just reminded me of that guy.

If you got a GM MAF, you'd need the translator unless you had the direct cable with ECMLink.

x2 on the google search, that is how I find everything. For example if I wanted to learn about Speed Density. I would go to google and type in "DSM Speed Density" and most of the time the first links that show will be for this website. I think the google search is better than the search feature in this forum, I find more information and quicker from using the google search.

Yes, all the other guys are correct. You need to have some kind of air metering.

I would suggest you also read more about what your apexi actually does. It is merely a signal translator, meaning it piggybacks and tells your car to put more or less fuel into the engine...

In the long run, your best bet is to go to a DSMLink setup

Ok well thank you for telling me to use google to search. I have tried using the search on this site and come up with crap usually. But anyways i was reading the description on the translator and it didn't make much sense to me the only part i caught onto was adjust air ratio our some where's along those lines so i just figured that having an afc would be the same thing but i guess i was wrong oh well. I was just trying to figure out a way to get rid of some of the clutter in the intake line so i could get it a bit shorter so i could run my intake pipe out my passenger side head light. But i'm guessing that a GM MAF would help with shortening it up by moving it to my uicp. Correct? Are there usually the MAF and translator on the classifieds on here? I just don't want to purchase them brand new seeming's they are $200 a piece on maperformance.com.
