nippon pistons any good? link inside

A used set of 2G pistons would probably run you $50.00 and be a better option then the ones you linked.

I dont know, for a bit more you can get a new set of oem pistons with rings that are brand new. I'd prefer new over used pistons especially if it cost a bit more. Since they are the company that makes original manufacturer pistons.

ok. where do they open up the rod to accept the piston? there are no machine shops near me in Chicago

O, and what is better, stock bore or .20mm over? and also how does the compression work? lower comp = more boost and high comp = lower boost? thanks

Sigh...care to explain why DSMers through-out the ages making 500 hp on 1g rod and 2g piston combos on pump should not have done that?

I could be wrong here, but maybe he was referring to the higher compression ratio of the 2g pistons. Because the 1g pistons have a lower compression ratio, the ecu runs more aggressive timing. So a 2g piston in a 1g engine may be more prone to knock on regular pump gas because of the more aggressive timing. As I said before, I could be wrong because I'm not a mind reader.

But its still higher than 7.8:1 But I'm not the one who made the original comment on running E85 so I dont know what the guy meant

I know, I was just saying.

You don't need e85 for 2g pistons. Pump gas is perfectly fine.

I am guessing that's what he meant. To the OP as long as you have something to tune with the higher compression won't be a problem on pump gas, and e85 s not needed. The higher compression will be a bit more responsive out of boost.

I WOULD buy them but just not from that ebay listing.
I bought the EXACT same set of NPR racing pistons .20 over for my 6 bolt about 3 months ago but for $78.00 shipped :hellyeah:
Just wait until they are on sale on another listing.

Also since you're in Chicago, the machine shop to go with would be Apex Auto Machine in Bensenville, IL.
AMS performance uses them as their machine shop of choice and the "go-to-guy" there would be Bill. Only downside is he is very busy ALL the time.

The cost of machining should be around $75 to resize the rods using the vfaq instuctions: Visual Frequently Answered Questions - Home Page (already posted)

I do plan on running e85 down the line. But which is better for reliability? 1G or 2G pistons. And bout the compression thing, it rather have something more responsive in boost. Throw opinions around. Im open to all opinions

Reliability it won't make any difference. Faster spool you want higher compression. If you're planning on E85 eventualy I'd say wait to upgrade your pistons. If you must now, go with the 2g. It's absolutely ridiculous to think running 2g pistons is "dangerous" on pump gas.

Multiple web sources say that "NPR" is not the same as "Nippon Racing". Do you have any confirmation that Nippon Racing is a subsidiary or other venture by NPR? As far as I know of NPR, the OE supplier for mitsu/toyota/etc., they do not make a racing piston. Regardless, you do not have the same pistons; if you observe where the ringlands are located with respect to the crown, you see they do not look like 2g or 1g turbo pistons; and easily the casted indentification marks are different than 1g or 2g pistons.

. . . But now that I'm looking at the original ebay listing on the first post more closely, they call those pistons Nippon Racing Pistons too. . . Now i know NPR (NOA is their Amarican company) is a company with Toyota and Mitsu being actual shareholders. And i know the ringland spacing and casting of the pistons in the picture of the ebay ad in question are like stock. But the second pictures by Mike02rt are not OE.

Mike02rt's pistons are older. The OP's picture is newer. . . Could it be that a Chinese company is getting better at making pistons look like OE replacement NPR pistons? It would be interesting to see what the actual piston crown will look like when/if you get those in the mail. They wouldn't put a picture of a real set of NPR pistons on their ebay ad, then send you what Mike02rt got in the mail, would they? . . . Well, at least, they wouldn't get away with that for LONG would they? Or are folks not noticing the differences, if they are? . . . So many questions come up with ebay sales. You can get a sure set of NPR pistons/rings from a few of our vendors for a very fair price.

so can someone explain to me what exactly does boring the cylinder .20 do?

If you have groves or scratches in the cylinders that you can not clean up by honing will need to be bored over to .20 and so on. Its not like you will get a big increase in displacement or power by boring your motor. If you don't need to get it bored over I would just have it honed.
