Horrible car to drive. I'm glad it's dead. It's a cool looking car but it's not a drivers car.

I'm going to say that you have never driven one. Name a car that you can start out in 5th gear...?

As for the Viper line ending, I knew this day was coming. It's sad, but you really don't want the cars being made forever.

Viper sales are one of the few that have not suffered at all Snowborder. I'm good friends with the VP of the SRT plant who was also one of the original developers of the Viper. The viper has brought forth more technology than any other car in production. I remember talking to my buddy last Thanksgiving and he was telling me all the testing they were doing with the cars, it was amazing.

I have driven one. You make it sound like it's a special car. Now if I said I drove a Zonda R then everyone could doubt it. ;)

The Viper has brought forth more technology than any other car in production? I want to see a credible source to back up that statement, and name dropping doesn't count.

Alot of things they have been doing I'm not a liberty to talk about. But I remember when they were testing things like ceramic pistons/sleeves and some special fuel set ups, and alot of things that I'm guessing you'll see in this new 2012 car they are coming out with.

I guess compared to your car it's not special at all ROFL.

I think the corvette has brought more to the table in in terms of technology it's 50+ years of being produced than the viper ever did in its what... 18 year history?

I'm sure the viper performs well and all, but what do you really expect from a light car with a big motor? Technology? Phffft, please... They pulled the V-10 out of a truck, revamped it, and threw it in futuristic looking coupe. Labeling it something fierce, "Viper". Watch out you might get bitten!! ROFL

I found this somewhere:

Many options and features on cars today were first introduced with the Corvette. Here is a list of Corvette firsts:

All-aluminum engine: 1990 ZR1 with LT5 engine; first base engine 1997 LS1.
Fuel injection: 1957 Ramjet mechanical fuel injection.
Manual transmission: 1955 3-speed.
Floor-mounted handbrake: 1963.
Power brakes: 1963.
Anti-lock braking system: 1986.
Front and rear disc brakes: 1965.
Aluminum frame: 2006 Z06.
Power steering: 1963.
Rack-and-pinion steering: 1984.
Front and rear leaf springs: 1984; previously front coil springs, rear leaf springs.
Independent rear suspension: 1963; first for US prod car.
Electronically adjustable suspension: 1989 FX3.
Run flat tires: 1994 Goodyear Eagle GS-C.
Pop-up headlights: 1963.
Traction control: 1992.
Stability control: 1998.
Head-Up display: 1999.
Air conditioning: 1963.
Leather seats: 1963

Why would you assume he hasn't driven one? You can't just presume that all DSMers are poor teenagers, even if that's what the majority happen to be these days. But to basically call someone a liar without asking for more info is a little confrontational, don't you think?

I'd say this statement is a pretty steep claim. I know the Viper seemed pretty advanced when it came out, but how much of its technology actually was cutting edge? And where can we see examples of this technology today thanks to the Viper?

Forget what they're working on now. What can we credit the Viper for bringing to the market up to this point in terms of technological innovations?

Not picking on you Charlie, just challenging the statement that the Viper has brought forth more technology than any other car. When I think sports car technology, Chrysler isn't usually the first automaker that comes to mind.

The Viper is a very nice car but i would rather take a vette over it anyday.
It performs better all around, and as mentioned above, has years and years of being produced and perfected over time.

Very understandable Chris, the problem is when I speak with my buddy it's in confidence. I guess to make it a little more clear, when I say "viper" I mean SRT. It is it's own branch of Chrysler. I've asked him many times why they have never used all of these discovery's in the viper. His answer is always the same, the viper was designed as an American Roadster. They have never wanted to go "high tech" with these things. Two years ago he told me that the viper would be being replaced in the near future, but he never gave me a date. I was promised that you'll see the years of discovery's and testing coming out soon.

So... What you're saying is that the "viper" or "SRT" has brought more technology to the table than any other sports car or manufacturer in american history. But, they (SRT) haven't implemented any of it in any of their vehicles yet?

Or are you saying that they used the viper platform to discover new things to use in the future. Possibly for use on their new vehicle that is supposed to be released 2012. Until then it's all just hearsay?

I'm confused...

Why hold back? Why wouldn't they want to make an "American Roadster" that is high tech. All the fun of a Cobra-like roadster with all of today's tech advances!! I'd buy that. I remember reading that the first few vipers were released without ABS. When the Vette had been shipped with it stock since '86. Personal tastes on ABS aside, when they did a side by side review with other "supercars" the Viper came out #1 on all tests except braking... The braking distance was considerably longer. Obviously Chrysler knew about ABS in 1992. Shit, we all know the laser had it...

I'm not here to pick on you but when you make claims of, "The viper has brought forth more technology than any other car in production." You better have some facts to back up those claims other than, "I know some shit, but it's priviledged information."

Charlie, you totally just contradicted yourself. You said The viper had the most technological advancements, and then you said They wanted to keep it simple, and low tech. It's not a good idea to make claims and then namedrop and pretend you're an elitist because you know SRT secrets. Nahhh.

Wow... Lofty even got a shot in... :applause:

ive never driven a viper but have read lots and lots of road tests and articles on them and the general consensus is that its a nightmare to drive on the track. im excited to see something new though

There's definitely a lot of sports cars that are better than the Viper, but I gotta be honest.. I wouldn't mind owning one.

Guess Lofty and Project have trouble reading . I said the viper was "responsible for." I didn't say that the viper is the most technologically advanced vehicle out there. It isn't, it is a roadster. You see a lot of things that were created for the viper and other SRT vehicles all over Chrysler's vehicles..... I might be a little biased because I've wanted a viper since I was born. But with talking to my buddy Chrysler has definitely brought more technology than any other company(American of course.) I'm by no means a Chrysler maniac. But if you look at their history they have been the major leader in further developments. And when this "new" vehicle is released I really hope to see a lot of their "new" equipment on it.

And 86k isn't really that much money at all. It's really all about perspective. I love seeing these people that make 25-35k spending 27k on their vehicle. But if I go buy an 86k car people would think I'm nuts.... Not really sure how that is justified.
