Has someone ever pinpointed the problem. I cannot seem to figure out where it is coming from? I did a search and seen that other have had this problem but no specific answer has been posted about what help to solve this problem. I have narrowed it down to being either a Ball Joint, CV Joint or bushing or some sort.

For those wondering, at one point i was getting a sever squealing noise from my driver's side wheel. I had my upper Control Arm replace and my Outer Tie Rods thinking that is what the problem was. It then returned and so i sprayed WD40 on everything basically and it disappeared. Well now it has gone from squealing to knocking. If anyone has experienced this same situation, please give me some advice before i loose it.

Thanks

I have seen a few with this issue. I have found that the upper control arm bushings are the culprit. If you tighten the bolts while the suspension is in fool droop like when it's on the jackstands than it will make them pop and squeak. You need to tighten with the weight of the vehical on the suspension. Seems to have fixed most cars including mine.

Well for the record.....the knocking/popping noise is being cause by a tear in the lower ball joint boot. The Squealing noise is being cause by my very rusted Strut Mount. Now it is time to fix these problems.

hmm, my front passenger side pops from time to time, maby i should lower the car and retignten the upper control arm nut..

learn something every day

ive had a knock ....during hard acceleration or breaking while traversing bumps sense the car was new.

i'll jump in this forum and ask a related question and hope for an answer. I hear a knocking or clicking noise from the front of my car whenever i accelerate out of a turn from a stop. once i get going a little faster or straigten it out, the noise dissappears. i know that my boots are shot in the front and that i need to replace them. but i don't see how cracked boots could be making that noice. also i noticed the other day that my wheels are not centered in the front wheel well. is this normal? or could this be related to my problem?

that clicking noise is the CV Joint itself..the boot protects it from dirt..once the boot is busted and u dont fix these asap, the dirt and sand will get into the joints..ur joints are prolly ruined..

so does that mean i need to replace the entire half shaft, or can i just replace the joint? what about the bearings? would those be bad too? i've known about the cracked boots for a while, but satan told me it'd be about $350 to have them replaced :thumbdown (i think that included the cv-shaft). i don't have that kind of money right now so i don't have any choice but to drive my car as it is. i won't get a chance to fix it until this summer.

does anyone know where i can get new half shafts for a decent price?

why not get a used set of a parted out car or check the junk yard...u could just swap out the shafts ..itll be easier than doing the joints

what,

Carquest, With core its like 70 Bucks!

i am just trying to figure out right now whether i have a bad CV or blown strut, no idea on how to check.

wow, amazing how much i've learned since then. i was such a newb! i don't know how many times i've yanked half-shafts since then. get some remanned shafts and they're not expensive at all.

there is a lot of stuff that can rattle loose and start making knocking noised in your suspension. just jack the front of your car up and take a look at things. if your cv-boots aren't busted open, it's probably not the problem. it could be a strut that's not lined up perfectly, or like paul said, it could be sway bars or other things too.

if anyone wants some good used shafts, i've got a pair on my 1g turbo fwd. they wouldn't be worth your time unless you picked them up though.

I have a knocking too, but only when I go over a dip or lip of a road. I thought it was the strut but they have since been replaced.
