Inner Tie rod replacement question

I just failed the state inspection because the tie rod is loose on the passenger side. I was told I need the inner tie rod (from the boot to the nut) replaced and should do the outer (nut to the wheel) at the same time. I was quoted $349 for it and walked out, want to check costs first. I have read a number of posts, and have info on replacing the tie rod ends, but not much on the inner tie rod. I have read that some use a pickle fork and some ppl just tap it out with a hammer. Any tips for a poor unemployed newbie would help. I'm just not sure what I'm gonna get into when I pull the boot back.

Thanks

Moog makes inner/outer tie rods.
I dont like to use a pickle fork cause it can sometimes rip the boot. just take a dead blow hammer and hit the steering arm abit. It shouldnt take much to hit it loose. To remove the tie rod, take the boot off and use I think a 32mm wrench to take the tie rod out

I might want to try to get mine replaced....Is there a tech article anywhere around...for a 1G in particular...couldnt find any
