Ok, I get this squeal that sounds like brake squeal when I turn left. It doesn't do it when I drive straight or turn right. I also just replaced the front brake pads. It's incredibly annoying. Does anybody have any idea what this could be?

Thanks!

Could be a partially seized caliper and/or partially seized caliper pin(s). There's some flex in the parts outboard of the wheel bearing, plus usually some give in the bearing, itself, so the rotor moves relative to the caliper bracket when you turn hard. If the caliper or the pins that hold the caliper to the bracket don't moved easily, this can cause the pads to contact the rotors hard enough to make noise when turning one direction.

Pull the wheel and try moving the caliper by hand. You should be able to retract the caliper piston(s) slightly, allowing you to slide the whole caliper side to side on the pins. If it all feels as hard as a rock, pull the guide pin and rotate the caliper up (as if changing the pads). Now, again, try to retract the piston(s) and slide the caliper on the pins. If it's still hard as a rock, rebuild your brakes.

Even if this doesn't solve the problem, if your brakes are partially seized, they need to be fixed.

Belt slippage? I don't know why it'd only be on one side, unless maybe you're massively fat.

Yeah I'm a FATBOY!
What's wrong with being a little chubby anyway?! :p

I doubt it's the belts. It's more of a metal on metal sound that hits a high pitched whine. Sorry, I shoulda been more specific.

I'll look into that on Saturday. My only other thought is that it could be a wheel bearing, but usually they grind or hum.

Thanks!

I agree that it doesn't sound like a wheel bearing. However, it could be secondary to a wheel-bearing problem, where the play afforded by the bad bearing is what allows your brakes to touch or not touch, depending on cornering force. Definitely check these, too, while you're at it. Good luck.

If you have factory brake pads, you may have a squealer starting to touch. It's a bit of sheet metal placed to where it starts to make noise when it's time for new pads. And one inevitably starts before the others.

A quick question, did you ever find out what caused this? My car does the exact same thing.

mine squels when i turn to, since one time in the rain when the power steering belt slipped off! i dont know how or why it happened neither, it left a huge gash in the overflow container next to it
