2G ball joints

I was driving my car and i was hearing this weird noise coming from the front end, it sounded like the springs and the shocks were rubbing together, the noise kept getting louder and louder and when i was driving 50mph or over the noise would disapear, and when i was driving slow it was ridiculous loud. I took it at firestone and they said the ball joints and controll arm need to be replaced and estemated work and parts $700. Thats ridiculous, i was like no thanks ill do them myself, me and my uncle are supposed to it this weekend but when i called the mitsubishi dealer they said the upper or lower, and said that theres four ball joints in the front, i was a little confused, has anyone changed their ball joints, and if yes how long did it take?

I believe there is a recall for the lower ball joint on the 2Gs. Look into it. It might be free of charge.

Have you actually checked the ball joints to make sure they're bad?

the guy that checked them is a good friend of my uncle so i dont believe he will lie about this.
