calgary,
just one simple question to ask.
-shopping for tires i have found that my my talon came off the lot with V-rated tires. would it be safe to drop down to an H-rated tire? im thinking i just might be able to squeze by but i need some advice.
thanks

thats corect, how ever from what i know the spped rating mainley refers to the stifness of the side wall, which effects tire ware and handeling. if the dealer put V-rated tires on this car which are rated to 240km/h, this has to be for a reasons. i dont dont think they had the intention of buyers going 130mph. i dont think i will ever get past the "speed limit" of an H-rated tire, but will the difference in handeling and tire ware be noticed?

The dealer put on whatever his tire connection could get for him cheapest, or whatever gave him the most margin to re-sell.
Different speed ratings go along with different intended uses, so the higher-rating tires often have a grippier, faster-wearing compound or combination of compounds. They're meant for racey-racer customers who don't think much of shelling out $200 per tire per year.

You'll probably notice the tire wear difference most by how long it lasts. And _very_ few people drive hard enough to recognize the difference in handling amongst street tires. One of the biggest differences normal people feel is how much tread noise a tire makes, and after that, ride harshness.

I've been _very_ impressed with Dunlop's A2 Sports on my 1G.

1G turbos came from the FACTORY with V rated tires, not just a dealer. They have to as they do not have any speed limiter and you can do over 130 stock (I tested it once 3 years ago).

Speed rating doesn't necassiraly tell you the handling limit of the tire. An aggresively oriented H rated tire will most likely perform better than a touring oriented V rated tire. The tires end design goal is more important than the speed rating, however many tire shops (like the one I work at) will not put on a lower speed rated tire than what the vehicle was equiped with from the factory.

And just for the record 2Gs only came with H rated tires and they did have speed limiters ;)
