here's the deal. front tire tread is fine. however, in the rear: the pass. side rear tire is about goddamn bald. and the driver side rear is about there but not as bad... my question? why are the two rear tires wearing out faster than the front and why are the two wearing out at different rates? Will a simple alignment fix this? THanks, Jake

My car seems to chew up rear tires as well which I find very odd. Usually the heavy end does that! I have a custom alignment with 0 toe, and have the car at/near stock height so there's not a ton of negative camber on the back. It's just very odd.

go it aligned today. they said $90 for the 4 wheel alignment and $295 for TWO tires. thats damn near $150 a tire for Goodyear Eagle HP's. I told them hell no on the tires. Hell, i can get the new Nitto Neo Gen's for 135 a tire and those are brand new on the market. Any suggestions on the Best tires for the best price? I'd like to get all 4 new tires while I'm at it. How much did you guys pay for your tires? any thoughts...

thanks, Jake

Hmph, specs other than factory leading to unusual wear. What could it be, what could it be.....

uh, NO... Please try to learn something about a subject before replying... Tire wear is caused by "improper" alignment, not "different from factory"... Ask any MR2 or NSX owner that is foolish enough to stick with a factory alignment... Rear of both is so massively toed in from the factory (for stability) that they eat rear tires in under 15k miles (significant stock negative camber just accelerates the process). In my case, I have reduced the toe angle, and thus the scrubbing of the tire while keeping stock camber. Hence tire wear is better than it was stock. However, it's still excessive. I'm wondering if these cars are prone to excessive suspension movement as they age. That could lead to the tires being "abused" during normal driving...

how are these tires wearing? Inside, outside, middle, outsides....

Mostly middles on mine. I thought driving 1500miles a day for 2 days through the desert caused them to pressurize and over-inflate but now I'm thinking that wasn't the case.

I see alot of argument here about the alignment but honestly, no real alignment specs. Everyone mentions "0" toe, or factory settings but no one has mentioned total toe, actual rear toe settings, front toe, camber all around, caster all around, and so on.

It would be really nice that if someone has had the insight enough to get an alignment, and they wish an opinion be given on why their tires are wearing abnormally, that the complete alignment readings be given so that there can be an informative and constructive discussion about why abnormal tire wear is present.

When I got my alignment it came with before specs, after specs, and mitsubishi recommended specs. The toe, caster, etc. was all perfectly in spec and my camber was within a degree of specs on all 4 corners.

I think my rear springs are just too hard (coilovers) and that is what makes my car jump/slide around on bumps. I am replacing and getting springs this week and will get another alignment and see if this still happens. I'll get all the data since my old data sheet is nowhere to be found.

i got my alignment and it was pretty straight forward, all the before specs that were bad were highlighted in red. all the good specs were highlighted in blue...red = bad ; blue = good. LOL pretty stright forward...ill come back with the analysis sheet in a few days for exact numbers.
