the most horrible noise in the world

I have the most horrible sound (a metal to metal creaking, popping, and loud sound) coming from the driver side wheel well of my 95 GST. It happens at a complete stop or slow roll while turning the steering wheel ever so slightly. With a noise like that I thought it would be obvious after putting the car on the lift but found nothing. It doesn't sound like a noise a cv joint noise........could it have something to do with the lower control or somthing around there. Someone please advise..........

Well, it sounds like your CV joint, but you said you know what that sounds like. I would check the boot to make sure it isn't ripped.

I had the same problem as you this past winter. Ever time I would turn the wheel there was just this god awful noise coming from my front driver's side wheel. Some of my buddies and I took a look at it and it was the joint. We sprayed some penetrating oil in there and turned the wheel back and forth a few times and let it sit. It took a couple of days to work itself in, but no problems since. I'm a mechanic by no means but it fixed the problem.

First off, this thread title is innacurate. I live with the worst noise in the world.

Sounds like a CV joint, however.
