Tokico Illumina with Eibach Pro-Kit

Just curious if anybody else has this set-up, and how do you like it? Also, if you have this set-up on your car, can you please post some pics preferably 2G's. I just got this set-up to replace my too stiff and harsh set-up of KYB AGX with Skunk2 Coilovers. Also, do the stock dust covers fit on these shocks or not? Thanks.

I also have coilovers and Im getting prokits and was wondering if you need to put the oem rubber bushings that go on top of the stock spring on the prokit spring

I got my prokit and the tokico adjustables in the mail today.

I should be putting them on my car tomorrow, ill let you know how they feel when i get them on.

Im assuming they will be 1000 times better than my factory shocks/springs w/ 144k miles on them.

Prokits+illuminas...cut the FRONT rubber bumpstops 22mm...from the fatter side. The rears, dont cut them. Simple.

Well, finally got them installed today. Took about 8 hours . It was pretty simple except when I tried to get the bolts off of the top of the struts. I stripped a couple threads on my old shocks (used vice grips, pliers, etc and still stripped ) Handles alot better than my previous set-up but it is still a little bit rough whenever I go over bumps on the road. Right now I have them set at 3 in the front, and 2 in the rears. I cut the bumpstops on both ends (basically chopped off the fatter pieces). Im going to the track this sunday with this new set-up and I will let you guys know how they handle!

DUDE, i hear ya on that, i broke one of those little threaded caps in half tryin to get it off. HUGE pain in the ass. I got the one on and decided to have my friend do it for 100 bucks, i got sick of messin with it.

Why do you have to cut the front bumpstops, when using this set up? Also.. what happens if you don't cut the front bumpstops, bad ride, noisy, or? Thanks!!

You have to cut the bumpstops in order to gain more suspension travel since your loosing some with the lowering springs. If you do not cut them, you will hit them frequently (bottoming out) and you will feel every little bump on the ground. If you cut them you will gain more suspension travel and thus, when you hit bumps, the strut will absorb the impact instead of the bumpstop. For your information, with Eibach Pro-Kits paired up with Tokico Illuminas, you will have to cut both front and rear bumpstops 22mm. I cut the front bumpstops only at first but then my rears would ride the bumpstops so I cut the rears also and now it rides and handles 100 times better than my previous set-up. Hope that helps.

Thats incorrect my friend. 1.) The directions say only the fronts. 2.) Search the forum, MANY ppl say only the fronts, reason being the front end has more weight and is more likely to "bottom out". There is hardly any weight in the back to cause the rear end to bottom out. But you can do whatever you like, no harm in doing it.

So... are you saying that directions do come with the Tokico's when you purchase them. Thanks!!

directions come with both shocks and springs.

Cool! I'm planning on purchasing the Tokico Illuminas from RRE in about a week or two. I already have springs on the car, but the springs I have are not Eibach springs, they are made by Suspension Techniques, and the drop is suppose to be 1.3" like the pro-kits, but they seem to be more like 1.5" instead, so I'm hoping that my springs will work just as well as the Eibach springs do with the Tokico's. Anyways... I just wanted to be sure that it does say in the directions to cut the bumpstops 22mm. Thanks!!

sorry to bring this back from the complete dead... but didnt want to make another thread... 2 questions...

1) with the pro-kit is a camber kit needed can my local tires plus align the car correctly?

2)I have a GS-T and Im planning on converting to AWD soon... I didnt see much of a difference in the rear end on my shell donor car... Is there a difference in the springs/ shocks of AWD vs FWd

1) Yes you need one for the rear, and your local shop can most likely handle yoru alignment.

2) The parts are interchangeable, the perches on AWD shocks are slightly higher though on some models (Illuminas) but other wise aither FWD or AWD springs/struts should work fine.

Ill probably just get the AWD rear shocks and springs... i think the car will ride a little higher I belive the reason for the difference is the AWD cars have a heavyier rear end so they make the shocks/springs a little taller to level it out...

Your avatar has a picture of you autocrossing... assuming that this is your focus, you definitely want the rear of the car higher, because you want the rear roll center up.

As to camber kit: search around (on this site). All you need are eight bolts and some washers from Home Depot. Do the work, yourself, before going for the alignment and save some money. If you search really hard, I think I already did the math for someone as to how many washers to use for ProKits.

Once I install the Illuminas and pro-line combo Ill let you guys know how the alignment went for future reference...

I have the prokits and illuminas -- i like them. Not as cushy as tokico blues. The springs are a great drop, and seem stiff enough to me.

I run around here with my illuminas set on 4 in the front, 3 in the back, but it is really just a weekend car.

What you need are eight M10-1.25 x40mm bolts (8.8 or better, to be safe) and four stacks of washers that are 1/4" thick. McMaster-Carr would have it to your door in two days or less, if you live in the middle of nowhere.
