hello. i'm new here. i've been doing research on different coilovers for the eclipse 2g and came across this site while surfing. I have narrowed down my choices to the Tein SS or the Tein FLEX based on my research and new found information in this forum. The car will be mostly street driven with very little track use. Can anyone help out with some decision making. Why would I choose the FLEX over the SS besides the pillowball upper mounts. Is the difference in price worth it considering the car is for street use. Persuade me to go with one and not the other. Thanks.

Tein SS is more street oriented, but flex is in between and Track. Flex also has one more function than SS. If I remeber correctly, Flex's damping rate is independent. Which mean you can adjust the Height but able to set the damping rate to whatever you want. However, when you change the ride height of SS, the damping rate will adjust accordingly, and you can't just to adjust to whatever you want.

the main difference between the flex and the ss is that you can adjust the dampening force from inside the car with the flex. besides that, they are the same... the SS doesn't come w/ pillowball mounts, but you can order them(as I did). Adjusting the dampening force from inside is nice, but not needed. IT's going to be really rare when you will really need to harden the dampers any more than their already stiff setting.

Thats only possible if you want to spend more for the EDFC.

even without the edfc(which it doesn't come with) you're looking at atleast 1400 for the flex... the ss alone u can get for 950, plus the pillowball mounts add another 275... added all up u paid about the same price. the efdc alone will cost you another 4 bills. The only time I think I would need the edfc is if one of my homegirls starts whining about how bumpy the ride is :p But that's whe I tell her to shut her pie-hole and just feel privileged to be riding in a dsm. Oh, and the flex damper's front spring rate is 1kg harder than the ss  , for california's jacked up roads, this will only make things worse.

FLEX has

1) Adjustable shock body length
2) Upper aluminum mounts
3) Higher spring rates standard

is there a significant amount of ride comfort loss with the pillowball upper mounts since it's basically metal that's attaching to the car vs. the stock mounts....

for those of you who purchased the SS system, any regrets not going with the FLEX system...why?

for those of you who purchased the Flex system, was it worth the extra expense versus the SS...why?

if you would do it all over again, any changes to your original choice...

thanks...i appreciate all the feedback...i hope to place my order very shortly...

My question is if I decide that the Flex springs are to stiff (550f). Can I order different springs from Tein and swap them out? Sorry, but Im just dont want to bounce like hell everywhere I go.

Unless someone has bought both the SS and FLEX I don't think they would be able to answer those questions.

Yes.

you won't bounce around at all... the whole reason you see cars bouncing around is because they only put lowering springs and no new shocks, and/or they are riding on their bump-stops... with full coilovers, bouncing will not happen. the stiffness does not cause that bouncing at all... But you will feel every bit of the ride: every crack and impoerfection in the road, you'll feel it... but that's good, u'll have better response and better traction.

Well thats good to a point, I still want some what of a nice ride. I relize some stiffness will be present. The main purpose of my car is to look nice and fun to drive. Plus my girl will hate really stiff springs.. :shhh: Thanks for the info though.. :D

I found them cheaper..

SS $875
Flex $1250
They are coming out with a basic damper set up $750

Anyone else know of anywhere else to get a good buy on the Tien flex kits!?

From what I have seen that website is the best price..not a huge price difference from everywhere else but its still alittle heaper then what i have seen....if there is somewhere cheaper I would like to know to...

On group buy center you can get the flex with edfc shipped for $1560 I believe from turbo evolution, that's what they quoted me. I ended up getting if for $20 more because dropping that much I didn't want to chance it but the place I ordered it from had it drop shipped from them. http://www.turboevo.com/
