We'll I just got done doing some suspension upgrades and figured I'd do the front brakes as well. Well my pistons were pretty much stuck, I bought a rebuild kit a few days ago and pulled the piston out just to see that they are pitted so I guess it's time just to put in some new calipers. I already have the rotors and brake pads, the rotors I got are about 10 and an eighth inch in diameter and are the exact same size as the old ones I pulled off. The casting on the calipers are #2182 and have a 2" single piston.
This car is a '90 GSX that has been very much molested, and right now I can't afford to do a nice big brake upgrade, since I would need new wheels, rotors, etc... I just need 2 calipers that will bolt up for a fair price. My question is, what's the difference between all the 1g calipers? I know some have smaller/larger pistons, and I guess theirs a difference between FWD and AWD calipers? I looked on rockauto and they have Beck/Arnley #0790111 and #0790112 come up for the '90 GSX, but it says that they're 2WD; Thru 3/89, and my car was manufactured 4/90. I'm assuming these are different? Are they smaller? They're very cheap, only $25/caliper loaded and no core charge. I need to figure this out tonight so I can get this car back on the road ASAP. Any help is greatly appreciated.
