The manual(GSX) describes setting up the front upper control arm in relationship to the 2 mounting (to body) studs with their bushings in a specific manner..85 degrees and with the distance from each mounting stud to the balljoint flange at 300mm and 234mm. My questions are 1) what is the exact purpose of this having to be set so precisely since the angle changes a bit when you attach the outer ball joint to the spindle and obviously the control arm goes up and down with suspension travel and 2) even with the 41 ft/lbs of torque on the 2 bolts attaching the control arm inner mounts to theses 2 studs, the new urethane bushing I installed are still allowing the control arm to to pivot up and down fairly freely, not locking in the above suggested angle parameters.

The rationale behind this is.........?

Thanks,

The stock bushings are vulcanized rubber, so they act as a spring. If you don't set the two sides the same, you have uneven pre-loads. Once you upgrade to urethane or some other freely-moving bushing, it's not an issue.
