You need the 18 x 7.5 with the +42 offset. Offset is where the wheel mounts to the hub in relation to the dead center of the wheel(if you were looking at the wheel from top while sitting upright) Therefore a high + offset the wheel bolts to the car far towards the outside of the wheel. Lower offset the further out it puts the wheel from the hub which on your 2G will cause it to rub on the fender lip on the rear. The correct tire size will be 225/40R18 or you can use 235/40R18.

Think im going to go with these instead.... Only weigh around 20 a peice , not bad... Well are you sure i can fit 235's with no problem?

They are 18x7.5 witha 40mm Offett this should be fine right?

Is your car lowered? If so what kind of springs?

I will be getting coilovers... ( Tein SS most likely , if moneys realyl short the basics )

One more question guys.... By going with a 17x7.5 , Could i still fit a 225 on there... if the offett is +40mm

What if the offett was +35 mm , Tire rack is saying 215's for both , but i would like to get 225s on her... Thanks for helpn me out

No the 225/45R17 will fit without any issues on the +40 wheel.

As will a majority of 245/40/17s, if you roll the rear fender lips.

Most 245/40/17's will require at least an 8" wheel width though.

Tirerack will always be on the conservative side. They will only quote tire sizes that are 99.99% sure to fit without modifications to a stock vehicle.

Oops. Missed the part where he said 7.5" wide. My bad. Definitely stop at 225s. And I mean real 225s, not Azenis which are as wide as many 245s. Good catch.

Or can we talk the thread-starter down from the windowsill and get him to get 17x8 +40s, which is what I/we always suggest?

Okay, let's talk about 18" wheel size for a minute. I have them. I bought them when I was a little less informed. Most of the discussions, the ones I paid attention to anyway, were bigger is better. I also got them in a wide enough width that I could run 245 width tires. The tires I use are 245/40/18's which have a considerably larger radius than stock. I chose this size to maximize the sidewall height for street driving but at the expense of torque.

I live in Maryland and my daily commute is not too bad, mostly smooth highway. But I still encounter the occasional steel plate or pot hole over which I close my eyes, grit my teeth, then stop to inspect how badly my tire is pinched and my rim bent.

But Boston? Maybe the big dig smoothed a few things out but the last time I was there monster trucks were more at home on the city streets than sport cars with rubber bands for tires.

Yes, 18 inch wheels look nice, but there is a sacrifice.

I hope you didn't mean that in the "dull" sense.:boring:

Translation:

Boston streets = rough
18" low profile tires = hard
rough+hard = bad

Yeah Well i live outside of boston , Street still suck ass thought , Right now i have the stock 16 Chrome 5 spoke's , Wich are MINT i must add... So going to a 17 , and spending 1200+ on rims+tires is almost not worth it to me for 1 inch... I might as well just get the coilovers and call it a day... How much could i get for the stocks with Tires ( 8k on tires , Mich. Nice. ) 2 of the rims have no flaws what so ever ( factory like ) Other 2 have little bit of damage to "Lip".... Anyways thanks for the feedback

I got somewhere between $200-250 for my pretty much mint stock silver 5 spokes with bald tires. Unfortunately, people don't seem to be willing to pay a lot for used tires, even if they are in good condition. You might get around $400 for your set, depending on your local market and how long you're willing to wait.

As for the "not bothering for 1 inch", you're only considering the diameter. You also have the opportunity to gain 2-2.5 inches in wheel width and 40 mm in tire width. If you're mainly going for looks, I personally think a really wide 17" wheel/tire looks more "racey" than a skinney 18" wheel. Plus you'll pick up tons of lateral grip, and more traction for your FWD. 18" and wide does look even better, but at the costs that Wret described.
