Hello All,

Newbee to forum, so sorry if this has been answered before....

I'm thinking of upgrading my brakes and was wondering if anyone has a review of the AEM 4piston, 13" system? I tried searching for this info, and didn't have any luck. Also thinking of the Baer Track (don't wanna pay 2K+ for the brembos). I'm going to use this system on road courses such as Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Thunderhill, etc..

BTW - I'm going to upgrade my wheels to 17s at the same time.

If anyone has comments on either system, please respond.

Thanks !

I had the Baer 2 pot system as well as the regular AEM system on my car. The Baer is way better.........also since you are road racing you will be happy to know that the Baer calipers are about 5 pounds lighter than your stockers.

Cast my vote for the Baer system. I have only open-tracked them once, but I was very pleased. One other DSM guy rode with me. He has a Wilwood package on his 1G and he was very impressed with my brakes running PF 01 compound. I have heard complaints about pad taper with the PBR calipers, but I put 250 track miles on in 2 days and I still have more than 1/2 life left on my pads. The track was VIR with two pretty substantial straights, braking from 120 on both.

Don't fool around with the AEM. Go with the BAER. If you can fork over the cash, get the two-piece rotors--saves like 6 lbs per corner. Do not get cross drilled. I would not even recommend slotted.

Check out i-m-racing.com. You can get the Baer package for $745 all day long.

I've heard some bad things about the AEM's from one other person.... gut since you guys have backed up his claim, I'll go with the Baer upgrade.

Good to know that this forum provides great feedback..... and Mahalo's (hawaiian for thanks) for the info.... I used to be a big DSM freak for a few years, then lost intrest.. now I'm in it again, for the long haul.

Hope to see you guys on open track days (if your ever in CA)..... I've owned this car since 1992, and I am now hooked onto road tracks.... took 10 years, but better late than never eh? ;)

I just went on the SCCA school on Nov 23rd, and my brakes faded (major way) on the full course session (bummer). But we didn't get scared (well, maybe a little :rolleyes: )

thanks again !!!

but what about aem for the beginer... i knwo that i can get the forunt and rear big rotor kits that use the stock calipers and braidedlines for like 720. how much woudl it cost to get a all around baer system? cause i woudl like to race but at 17 i have like no money

well a buddy of mine has had both the AEM big brakes and the Baer Track system and he said the Baer brakes were superior in braking performance and longevity. I currently have the Baer brake setup and it is great. Baer doesnt sell a big brake upgrade for the rear, but you can get matching zinc rotors that are slotted and cross drilled. I have the Baer Track system w/ optional slotted and cross drilled rotors and it cost about 200 more then the entire AEM package that you mentioned. The rear rotors are an additional 200 or so bucks at Mach V

I know a guy with AEM brakes and they were all stress fractured after only 1000 miles from the heat. I would go with Baer. Better name better overall as far as brakes go anyway.

You might also look into willwood or brembo although I dont know if they make upgrades for DSM's or not;
