I just bought a set of ADR Phantom's 17x7 +40mm offset for my car to replace the tsw v1's. Anyway, there kind of a universal rim. Im curious if I need spacers? Im running 225/45/17 on the back and 215/45/17 on the front. I was reading about spacers , but im still not sure what there for. If someone could help me out, im not much of a tire wheel guy, so im trying to learn. I know I have to get new lugnuts to fit into the wheel, thats alittle off topic, but any input, thanks guys.

Also my car has a 2 inch drop and is on adjustable shocks, if that means anything? Thanks!

with two different size tires on a gsx, i think spacers are the least of your concerns.

There only different in width. From what I was informed, the height (circumference) of the tire was what mattered. How ever I do plan on getting new front tires next month after christmas  , but please correct me if I was wrong! Like I said, im here to learn, not much of a wheel / tire guy!

Yes it is the height the matters, but 215/45/17 and 225/45/17 are different heights! The height number in tire sizing is not a fixed amount, it's a variable based on the percentage of the section width, 45% in this case.

And to answer you question, no, spacers should not be needed with that offset.

right. 215 and 225 are the width in mm (roughly, as some companies fudge a bit). so 45% of 215 is smaller than 45% of 225, so the overall diameter is smaller. not a good thing at all. according to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html that is 4/10ths of an inch difference. i wouldn't do it. i'd get new tires now, or not drive it until i could.
