A friend of mine is selling his 17x9,5 rims with 245/45 tires, I need new ones and i would like to get the widest possible though the car will se alot of track in the future (not 402m more like autox) I dont mind flaring the shit out of the fender but i would like to know whatyou think about it, I know greg collier uses 275;s and that he has his car flared, the thijng is that i dont understand the numbers he has listed about backspacing and so on and , so what do you think of it ? is it possible ? with flaring and spacers...?
regards Alfred

You will need to tell us more about the wheels and your car before we can answer: Offset? What type of vehicle? Lowered? What suspension?

Sorry for the information i didnt write.. i was in a hurry and thought it was in my profile.
Its a 92 eclipse and I wil be using d2 coilovers
the offset of the rims is 22

As long as you're going with a coilover suspension and are willing to make some major fender cuts, both front and rear, you probably won't need a spacer. The tires and wheels will stick way out of the fender wells so flaring is a must.... And I'm running a 275/*40*-17 so it's a much lower profile then the *45*.

Thanks greg . flaring it is then...
guess a will have to change wheel bearings once a year to but i can live with that .

Isn't that a sidewall *ratio* though?

I don't know enough about tire sizing, but I have to think 245/45's profile would be close to a 275/40's.

EDIT: If I'm doing my math correctly, 245/45 is .25mm more than 275/40

Correct! I was running a 275/45-(16) then went to a (17") rim so I decreased the profile to a 275/(40)-17 maintaining the same tire height. If I went with a 275/(45)-17 I would have had to cut an additional 1/2" out of the fenders for suspension travel. This would have had me cutting beyond the mono-body seam in the rear sacrificing some structural integrity.
