Suspension Overhaul?

My car has very loud squeaks coming from the suspension and the shocks are worn. I will be replacing the shocks, but I don't know what to do about the squeaking. I'm pretty sure its just bushings, but a local garage (not perfomance, but has never ripped me off in the past and I'm a regular customer there) tells me that I should consider replacing everything above my struts; bushings, plates, bearings... some other parts which I don't know the names of but looks like metal sleeves and spacers, ect. About 8-10 parts total for each wheel. Should I just do the bushings or replace basically everything connecting the body of the car to the struts like the garage suggests? Any input would be appreciated.

1. How do you know your shocks are worn?
2. Mechanics get paid to replace parts.
3. Mechanics do not get paid to spend 5 hours to find a loose bolt.

can you reproduce the squeak by pushing up-down on the car? going up a driveway bump? if it squeaks by pushing up/down, put your head under and find where the noise is coming from.

I would look for a loose bolt, torn ball joint seal, or stabar issues.
