Yesterday I started to get a grinding noise from my front left wheel well, so I lifted the front end and spun the wheel and checked the pads. The pads seem to be dragging on the rotor. Does anyone know of what I should start checking to fix this? I'm going to order new pads on Tuesday. I had it all aligned two weeks ago and so that hopefully isn't causing this. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't normally describe the sound of pads dragging across a rotor as "grinding."

After driving, stop and put your hand on the wheel and then the opposite wheel. Are they the same temperature? If in fact your caliper/pads are not releasing properly the offending wheel will be considerably warmer, sometimes even hot, so be careful.

The usual cause is corrosion of the brake caliper cylinder and piston. Replace or rebuild and flush the old fluid.

okay i will give you vital information about "dragging" brakes as i had that has given me a nightmare from the day i bought my 1g. i will make this very veryvery simple. buy new brake calipers. in my case i had to buy all 4 brake calipers because once one went all 4 went which REALLY sucked

Yup. It's the dreaded brake caliper virus. It’s transmitted through the lines. Best to amputate before it spreads. Thank you doctor.

ROFL I think the reason mine is grinding is because the inside pad is in such horrible condition. Thanks for your suggestions guys. :thumb:

Does anyone know what might cause the brake pad to wear unevenly? I'm not sure if that is common. The inside pad that is grinding has worn at an angle.

I'm guessing that's what I've got right now. I just posted about it in the "problem diagnosis" forum for help. My suggestion is to replace the entire brake system except maybe for the hard lines. I just replaced the calipers, rotors, pads, brake master cylinder, brake hoses, and the ebrake cables. If this doesn't cure it I'm buring the car....after I take out the engine of course! :D
