I'm seriously considering this system for my mostly track car. There have been 3 threads so far that contain someinformation, however none have had anyone that actually had driven with an installed system. Also, while i'm in the process of talking to the motorsports distributors, I was wondering EVERYTHING people know about this company.

For referance:
450lbs/in in front
280 lbs/ in in rear (looking to kick this up abit, however if I buy a rear sway bar, i'm not sure if i'll need it)

Camber plates from them are rediculously expensive, i was wondering if the 200$ set from RRE would work with these?

Are the adjustables rebound and compression together? or is it just compression?

Thanks for any and all information you can provide.

I bought the kit, they should be here in a couple weeks.

The adj. = both compression & rebound. I didn't pay extra for adj. I agree with Pieter's logic in that a properly setup coilover shouldn't need adjustability. They should be properly matched from the start.

I think I'll just buy the GC or RRE camber plates. RRE sells a really nice set.

How do these spring rates work out with the whole "Motion ratio" thing. (yeah i really don't know all that much about suspension geometry, any 1g suspension experts input would be much appreciated. Technical information specifically)

Your motion ratios are around .91/.84, so 450/280 becomes about 370/200 at the wheels (since wheel rate = spring rate * motion ratio squared).

I just recieved/installed my Hotbits non-adjustable coilovers on Friday. Currently, the adjustable Hotbits change rebound and compression at the same time, but they are apparently developing a set that adjusts them individually. When I ordered my coilovers, they were also still making the front camber kits, but those might be available by now.

My old suspension setup was KYB AGX w/ Sprint lowering springs. When I installed the Hotbits, I also put on a beefier rear sway bar that I have had sitting around for awhile. The Hotbits are 1000 times better than the KYB/Sprint setup. Ride quality is better (not nearly as kidney jarring as the KYB's), and the handling was infinitely improved. I drive a windy ass 27 mile canyon every day, and my commute is MUCH more enjoyable now :thumb:.

If you are just looking to slam your car, these are not the coilovers for you. Minimum reccomended ride height is only like 1.5" below stock. These are definitely geared toward performance and not drop. I can post pics of my car w/ the Hotbits if anybody wants.

All in all, Hotbits are definitely one of the coolest mods I have done to my DSM.

THanks for the input!! I'm definitly not just looking to "slam" the car... more oriented towards road racing. Good review. They will dyno them and give you the data, however they ahve to do that special from the factory.

I'm adding up the total cost for them, and it is
$1088 for the coilovers. $260 more for the adjustability. for a total cost of $1348.

Duties and such from canada bring the total to $1385 and with the camber/castor plates from RRE are $290 which brings everything to 1675... without shipping costs.

Hmmmm what are everyones thoughts about the adjustability? I was interested in it so that i could take the shock dyno, and more accuratly match the shocks in the front and back. but i don't know if thats worth 260$

Here is a quote from Peter Reilly regarding the adjustable option. Maybe this will aid in your decision...

"The adjustability does effect bounce and rebound together on our sets. In the future they will be seperate, thats in development.

Most of the time people really don't know what they are doing with the adjustment anyway. I have rallied / raced for more than a decade, won championships and I still don't mess with my valving once I am happy. Adjustment for street setups gives you the ability to adjust a comfort level of the ride more than anything else. The main valve in the damper is a shim stack, one stack for bounce and one for rebound. These don't adjust. The adjustment of the damper is a bleed bypass. Bleed softens the ride for comfort or closes to force all the dampening through the main piston valve (shim stack) which will make it more firm, and more controlled.

We started the adjustable dampening because customers want it, even though I never found a need for it. We test all our suspensions on the car to confirm main valving and spring rates."

To me, it doesn't sound like you are going to get the adjustability you want out of what is currently offered. I didn't go with the adjustables, and I am glad I didn't spend the extra money. I couldn't want anything more out of my non-adjustables. Just my opinion though.

Bought a shipment and they're eating the duties so you don't have to. Give them a call, saves several hundred dollars.

did the coilovers come with instructions on how to raise/lower and set all 4 corners at equal height, or did you use trial/error to figure it out? I wish mine would hurry up and get here.

Yes, the coilovers include some pretty good instructions for setting the car up for lowest recommended ride height. There are some diagrams that show how far you need to set the perches from the bottom of the shock in order to achieve proper/equal ride height.
Installation is very easy, took me about 45 min a corner.

Hey. I got one of the first set of race/street coilovers for the 1G, but I didtn't see any directions for setting the ride height. Can you summarize or email them to me please. Probably be a lot easier then getting them from Peter. Unfortunately the car is broken, so I haven't been able to test them.

Thanks,
Dan [email protected]

Who did you guys order them from? I got my from Wagner Motorsports, but for some reason they're not going to be here until mid june :nono:

I'll go rummage through my garage and find the specs for you. I will just scan them in and e-mail them to you.

I ordered my Hotbits from Motorsports Distributing Inc. One of they guys there (Peter) did the development on them. Took two weeks for my coilovers to be made in Malaysia, and 2 days to ship them via DHL to my door. If you got the non-adjustables, I believe each set is made when ordered, so that could be why they won't be here until mid June.
