Anyone ever try these tires????

Yes, my smart half has them on her AWD - she hates them.

Compared to the Sears Yokohama A540s they replaced, the Contis are a) sloppy steering, b) much less dry grip, c) much less wet grip, d) much less snow grip and e) zero ice grip.

They do however, last much longer. If the A540s were still available the Contis would have been in the dumpster after a couple of months.

We will be replacing them with either Avon M550s or Yoko Avid V4s.

go to Discount Tire Co. they'll help you get the best bang for your buck

That's exactly why we chose them, TireRack's ratings !

Katy spent ages researching the different tyres, these got the best reviews - and it was the snow rating that clinched the deal.

I think the problem is related to the type of people who buy a given tyre model, and what they expect from their tyres. But the bottom line is their performance is comparatively miserable, but the wear rate is far, far better - the 540s were bald in 30k.

Yokohama recommend the Avid V4 as the closest match grip-wise, TireRack humans recommend the same Yoko, the Avon, or for better snow performance (at the expense of all other categories) the BFG Traction T/A.

Since we got the Contis a few (2G AWD) friends have switched to the Avid V4 and have reported quite favourably, so that's what we'll be fitting.

9 times out of 10, when TireRack group tests tyres they finish in order of price. I find that rather odd.

no they tore the shit outta my rims lug holes...offered to replace but they would never work on my car again

Are you guys talking about 'extreme' contact or 'touring'. Extreme is not supposed to get any snow traction since it's either ultra high or max performance. I 'm curious since I picked up a couple of those from a wrecking yard and spent a wooping $22 on them :D

okay, make friends with the discount tire guys first... those continentals will last a long time, but they're not so sticky - harder compound.... yoko es100 are good

my buddy had those on his evo as a replacement to the stock yoko a046's and he was very disappointed. so he went w/ toyo ra1's and loves the way it handles now :thumb:

I know, I know - I do apologise...

Even more pertinent is the following post - how exactly does one compare the performance of a supposedly premium all-season snow-focused street tyre to a dedicated race tyre like the Toyo RA1 ?

Clearly those two tyres could have been twins at birth. Perhaps the Conti is just a harder compound version for those endurance races - Daytona perhaps ?
