1g.... widest tires?

Im considering getting a 1g awd dsm, and if I get one, I definatly want to get really wide tires... maby 10 inchers. now, my question is, would I need custom widebody fenders to get this to work, and would it really be possible on the 1g dsms?

I have 16x8 rims with 245s on them. They fit well and do not rub at all.

no. probably not.

why do you want 10 inch wheels? so it looks mean? handling will suffer and you certainly wont run into traction issues with 8 inch wide wheels on an AWD.

to run anything over 8" you're going to need some serious backspacing and some fender work done in order to not rub somewhere. the widest a 1g awd should run is typically assumed to be a 7" rim/ nearly stock offset/ and 235 tires.

and you said that 10 inch tires would damage handling.... how?!?! the modifications that you would have to do to get the wheels/tires on? or does having 4 10 inch tires getting power somehow slow the car down?

anything over 7.5" or 8" wide tires will rub against the struts in the front. More so when turning. 225 or 235 tires would be suitable.

Im probably gonna get some spacers and run 255s or maby if I want to get extreme as much as 275s

There is a C prepared AWD laser that has run here locally a few times and was at nationals. He's running 16x10's and it didn't look like he had to do much besides spacers and flare the wheel wells to get it done.
It was funny that he was complaining that the current rules kept him from running 16x12's like the V8 guys.

It all depends on the application and the tire type. Some 245 tires are wider than others I am running 245 40 Kuhmo 712s on a 7.5 in Rota Subzero rim and it fits great with no rubbing whatsoever. However the 1gs are limited in the amount of tire they can run. With just the right combination of offset and wheel spacer you should be able to fit a 255 on an 8 in rim. However 255 will more than likely be the widest tire that you can effectively run. I have seen 2gs run a 275 inch tire but they have a different suspension design. Nick Drake is the man when it comes to questions like this you should really ask him.

To answer your question I would put a 275 on a 10 inch wide rim and if you actually find a 12 inch wide rim then you could fit a 335 on it pretty comfortably.

NDgsx is Nick Drake. I run 17x8's with 225/45 re730's and plan on going with 245/40 SO3's or something similar in the spring.
