Getting some new 17x8 rims (with 40mm offset), but I want to get the widest tire that can still fit properly without any rubbing. Would 235/45/17 work on my 1G fwd, or would 225/45/17 be safer? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

a 235 should fit, a friend of mine is running 245's on an older set of 8.5" wheels he has on his 91 laser.

Ok awesome...based on what was said here, it seems like 235/45/17 should fit nicely on my 17x8 rims with 40mm offset (stock suspension). Going from 205 to 235 will hopefully give my crappy fwd launches some better traction (Im going to be getting new tires as well, Kuhmo Supra 712's). THANKS for everyone's input!!!!
