Ok, quick and simple, Ive used the search, but this would be quicker. Bewteen Raybesto's PG Plus pads or Metal Masters pads, both semi-metallic. Which do you guys prefer, or have you heard anything about those, pro's/con's? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :thumb:

Let me play Devil's advocate. So what if the pads eat your rotors? Most really good high temp pads will.
For example, I have used Porterfield r4s pads and they are relatively rotor friendly. They stop nice and quiet. However when really pushed they WILL fade.
I have also used Porterfield r4e pads. When cold they will chew rotors noticeably. They squeek until they warm up. When warm the pads just work. No matter how hot I got them they just kept working. That ability becomes addicting. Quickly.
Ultimately I kept the r4e pads in for everyday use. I just made sure to take the first couple of stops somewhat conservatively until the pads got some heat in them.

I had metal masters on my 2g awd, very good pads, they will fade if your really on them from like 130 but they definately rocked. I liked them for the fact that they grip with very very little pressure, i could brake very hard and quickly without hardly pushing the pedal, i hate my 1g brakes but im addicted to speed and havent put any money into stopping power, just going faster power =D

For street use, Metal Masters are hard to beat. Initial stopping power is good, but when you warm them up (not too much, of course), they are phenomenal. Paired with twin-piston calipers and slotted rotors, they are hard to beat for the price (I did my conversion for $400). I would recommend them to anyone short of the truly dedicated Road Racer who jumps into hairpins at 120 Mph.

Pad material is the easiest way to effect the "feel" of the braking system. Remember the thing you gain with a big brake upgrade is consistency. Most brake systems will stop from a high speed very well once or twice. Better systems will maintain that ablity longer.

The best brake pad for your application depends on what you plan on doing with it. The braking system on your car was designed to operate within certain parameters. Please elaborate on what your goals are for the vehicle (i.e.- daily driver, weekend drag racer, dedicated drag car, autocrosser, Road racer, etc...) and what you expect from the braking system (longevity, noise free operation, best initial bite, high temperature operating range, wet braking performance, etc...) These are all things needed to be considered when selecting braking components to meet your demands, otherwise disappointment in your selection will rear it's ugly head and your wallet will suffer. Looking forward to your reply.

Hope I can help,
Joe

Yeah, I guess I was pretty bland with that. I am going for a daily driver, but something I can get into some corners with without any worry. Noise free operation, non-stock rotor eating operation, long lasting, yet highly functional. I have already done a lil research before I ordered them (Metal Masters) These sound just right for what I am trying to acheive. Thanks for the replies guys, any more insight will be appreciated.

yeah i am in the same boat as SpooledGSX98 i need brakes and its for a dialy driver, i was thinken about the Hawk pads, how are those?

Hawks are known to munch rotors in a big way.... I run Porterfield R4 on my rally car and have run the r4s in the past on the street..... Both are very rotor friendly but cost quite a bit of cash........ I love the R4 in the race car, but plan to try a cobalt friction next..........

what if i got good rotors will it still #### them up?

Well I am refering to the hawk RACE pads like the blues...... I dont know what your goal with the car is but I can say the hawks have a ton of initial grip and just destroy rotors even if they are good.... I run cheap ass autozone rotors on my rally car and have run 2 events and still have LOTS of pad and very very little rotor wear........

Cheers

On my GSX I'm using the Metal masters, and they're awesome pads. And as you can see, MANY others here have had great exprience with the Metal masters. (I've used VGX stealth semi-metallics, and like the Metal masters better.)
And like all brake pads, if you get on your brakes really hard for a long tme, the power will fade, and you can boil your brake fluid.
What will really give you more braking power, is the SIZE and DENSITY of your brake rotors. If you have small and thin rotors, it will be small heat-sink, thus brake fade will occur sooner.
If you have large diameter thick rotors, the big diameter will give better leverage, and the heavier/denser the rotor, the bigger the heat-sink (or the rotors' ability to take in heat) thus you will have more braking power, with less brake fade.

Minor addition/correction:

Brake fade is only indirectly caused by the rotor heating up. The key issue is the temp of the pads, not the temp of the rotors. The coefficient of friction of the pad drops off at high pad temps ... this is classic pad fade. The pads are also the main route for heat to get to the fluid and boil it. And, if your pads are new and haven't had the extra resin cooked out, heating the pads causes them to produce lots of gas that gets between the pad face and the rotor.

Thats what I am going to do. But I think I can save a few more bucks at Autozone.

If later on, I see I will need more, then I will upgrade. :thumb: :laser:
